My concern is that the diagnostic tool that was used could not read the ABS unit, but the ABS is still working when it is manually checked by " Mashing the brakes in the wet grass".

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2004 C2 and the ABS/PSM light came on the other day. It happened after I did a full brake job. I thought it was one of the ABS sensors, but when I took it to a shop, the diagnostic computer could not read the ABS. When the shop did a road test (Mashed the brakes in wet grass) the ABS worked. Any suggestions?

POST 2Original post

I think the reason why, after 54 people having read your posting, no one has answered might be.. no one understands what you are talking about. ie:- (Mashed the brakes in wet grass) ??????????????????????

POST 3Original post

Hurdi I think what the op is trying to say by (Mashed the brakes in wet grass) is slammed on the brakes to manually check to see if the abs is working. As to the OP I was once told by and indy that a slipping clutch might also trigger PSM light which will trigger the ABS. I don't know if that is plausible maybe the tranny expert can chime in on that theory???? LOL

Correct, they manually checked the brakes to make sure the ABS was working. The car has 29k miles and the clutch is working perfectly. My concern is that the diagnostic tool that was used could not read the ABS unit, but the ABS is still working when it is manually checked by " Mashing the brakes in the wet grass". Also, PSM button will not work. It does not light up when I press it.

POST 5Original post

Did you by chance have the tires changed at the same time as the brakes? The C4 requires pretty tight tolerances between front and rear heights. If there off, PSM and ABS will just quit until the next time your start your car...

Have the error code read first. That would make the diagnostic much easier.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did not change the tires, just the brakes. And like I said, the diagnostic tool does not read the ABS at all but the ABS activates properly.
