Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i'm in the process of replacing the waterpump. I got the old pump out, and also removed the thermostat, I went to install the new pump and realized that the metal mounting sleeve thing from the old pump did not come out with the old pump. I can't get it out.
I tried to remove the metal thing from the new pump, but it is not coming out either - I don't really want to to force it out, and damage it.
I have attached pics, the one pic with the old water pump shows the metal stud thing that came off with the pump, the other one stayed on the engine.
Any help on getting that thing out?
Blow Torch ?
That sleeve came away with the old pump on my 996. I'd hit it with a little PB Blaster and wiggle it out... depending on how much corrosion there is, wiggling might include some right-angle needle-nose pliers.

That sleeve is one of the two locating pin, these two holes are where the longer bolts go into, the other five are the shorter ones.
Looks like you've already tried Vise-Grip, I can only suggest heating that corner up with a heat gun and hit it with PB Blaster, and repeat......, aluminum will expand faster than steel, so the shock load may loose this up.
I agree....soak in with WD-40 or other lubricant for a day. Come back and have at it, after the time has passed, BUT I would not hit it! If you break it off then you will have no purchase to grab onto. Try grabbing onto with vise grips and rotating to loosen it up.
If you break if off you are looking at dropping the engine , IMHO, to drill it out.
I hope you broke all those impeller blades upon disassembly. If not, well I don't believe a Crystal Ball will be needed to predict what the future holds. This is especially true if the car is a 2000 or 2001.
