Suggestion
You can be damn sure I adjusted the seat correctly to drive a nice Porsche FAR more than the 100 yards the customer expected I'd be driving if you know what I mean...Best job I ever had but now I tip the valet to let me park my car myself and suggest you all do the same.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I was at the horse races today (any of you guys see that mayhem at the 10th race, Del Mar?), and used the valet parking. When I got home tonight, I found that the valet had broken off the seat adjustment **** (see pic below).
Trying to prove that they did this is more of a pain than simply replacing the switch (I would have raised hell had I seen it at the race track).
I searched the forums, but can't find anything very specific... several people have said they had to remove the seat, but that was for other models (993, etc.).
The "stem" that this **** snaps onto is loose, and the plastic bezel is scratched from age. So, I want to take off the bezel, paint it, and replace this whole switch assembly.
I figure it will be obvious once I take out the two small screws near the bottom of the bezel (visible in the picture below). But, figured I'd ask here before I mess with it.
Anyone got a few pictures of how this stuff comes apart, part numbers, and whether or not I need to take out the seat?
2003 996 C2.
Thanks all!!
The inner part of the switch cap is broken, so it won't "grab" the metal stem anymore. But the stem also feels loose. I didn't have a chance to look at it closely. If I'm lucky, maybe all I need to do is snap on a new switch cap, but I want to be prepared if it needs a new switch.
Also, as mentioned above I want to repaint the bezel, so that's why I want to know how the whole assembly comes apart.
Thanks again, all!
The large plastic surround/bezel is held in/on by the two small Phillips screws on the bottom of the bezel and two Molded plastic hooks on the top. So screws out lift ~1/8," tip out at top, remove bezel will let you see the switch wire harness. You can disconnect and slide it out of the channel that attaches it to the seat bottom.
If you want the whole seat pan out: TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE CAR AND PUT IT IN THE HOUSE, if you turn the key on you will set off the air bag light.
*There are two electrical connection that have to be released first.
The seat pan is held onto the frame with two nylon clamps.
You can release it, pull the pins out of the clamps to release, rotate the clamp open (tight fit), and tip the front of the seat pan up, slide forward, and out.
*There are two electrical connectors on the bottom that have to be released first. You can unplug the larger connector by sliding the left side of it away from the main body. That separates the two halves. You will also have to remove the seat belt connector from the main connector. There is a small plastic panel that slides onto the side to hold it into the main connector.
Then disconnect the switch harness and slide it off the seat pan. There are clips on both sides that hold the two small wire harnesses to the pan. Slide the wires out of these clips to leave them in the car with the seat frame.
Id just epoxy it back on. Its already broken so.... if it every fails just break it back off to replace it if you need to to remove the entire switch when it does fail.... 15 min as good as new
I was a valet in high school and college in West LA and Beverly Hills. You can be damn sure I adjusted the seat correctly to drive a nice Porsche FAR more than the 100 yards the customer expected I'd be driving if you know what I mean...Best job I ever had but now I tip the valet to let me park my car myself and suggest you all do the same.
When I lived in West LA, there was a car theft ring over by the Westside Pavilion mall. The car thieves would stand on the sidewalk near the mall, wearing a red vest. People would pull over, hand 'em the keys to their car, and go inside the mall. Last they would see of their car!
