There was surface corrosion so the collars need to be replaced since they were mangled to free them up.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

So I need to replace the rear struts on my 2003 996 coupe. The dealer wanted about 2000 for both rear struts to be replaced as well as 2000 for the wheel bearing (only right rear). I was looking online and I can get a kit with all 4 struts for 3300 (no labor). Should I have the dealer replace it or take to Indy? Seems like the cost difference is the same.. 2k for rear and 2k for front vs. 3300 + labor at an Indy.
can you guys recommend any other kits that are plug and play like the ROW M030? Cheaper?
car has 135k and I plan on driving it till 200+ mi
Those 3300K for just struts looks crazy to me
You can buy the complete set (4) RoW springs for 1K and buy B6 shock absorbers for around 1,5K (also four). That means that for 2,5K you have the parts for an improved RoW version...
Ouch! Do you
have to have
M030 suspension? I picked up a set of Koni Reds from Tire Rack for like $700 & a set of Votgland springs for $230. I budgeted $1500-2k for my suspension overhaul. Theses struts and springs left me plenty of cash to buy F & R strut mounts/bearings, hardware and 2x LCA's that needed replacing
and
a set of Pagid rotors all round.
Maybe something to consider?🤷♂️
RoW springs you can buy them in any Porsche part dealer. Just make sure to order the correct reference for your model (c2/c4-cabrio/coup-auto/manual)
Same with the B6 shocks. You can buy them in any Bilstein dealer. Again, make sure that you take the part number from the european Bilsten catalog, not from the US one.
I'm taking my GT3 dampers off now (27k miles) in case you want a used replacement. M030 are the same, right? There was surface corrosion so the collars need to be replaced since they were mangled to free them up. I'll have them all off and cleaned up by the weekend.
Pure insanity but doesn't surprise me when it comes to dealership... But indy is defiantly the route to go you can save by brining your own parts...

OP: Not sure if it's still applicable, but I had to be fully refunded by two different retailers, due to back order (despite listed "in stock" by the retailer) when I tried to order a set of Bilstein B8s w/ H&R springs, back in June. That's why I chose the Koni and Votgland combo, I posted previously. Similar specs to the Bils & HRs with arguably a better ride for the street, and they're actually in stock.
Which ever route you choose; I'd recommend call and verify and/or order over the phone, to avoid the hassle I went through. Just a suggestion. GL
