Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
The real issue is who you are most comfortable with doing the work.
Leading evidence: 'who you are most comfortable' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'who you are most comfortable' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill port is needed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Plus a special attachment for the fill port is needed.

The instructions provided above by Paul Waterloo do not apply to model year 2002, it's a different fill procedure (different fill port location).

It's pretty much a no brainer, you just have to know how to fill the transmission correctly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am taking my 2002 in to have the Tiptronic serviced, fluid, filter and new gasket. The local Porsche Dealer quoted my $830. A couple Indys were around $400. It was a sticker shock from the dealer as I expected it to be maybe $550, but $800?
I have decided to go with
European Performance
in Raleigh. Both them and Weaver Motorsports have good reviews. Has anyone on the forum used EP before?
It's pretty much a no brainer, you just have to know how to fill the transmission correctly. If you don't, you'll toast it in no time. If you are interested, I wrote a procedure on how to do it on an Audi....I'm sure it's basically exactly the same.

For a 2002 (which I have) parts alone are a minimum of $150, assuming you only need 5 liters of ATF. Plus a special attachment for the fill port is needed. The instructions provided above by Paul Waterloo do not apply to model year 2002, it's a different fill procedure (different fill port location).

For me, I didn't feel good about doing the transmission myself. Granted I have done probably about 10 older Ford C6, C4 and FMX transmissions but the price to replace the Tip made me cautious. I just got the call from the Indy and it appears my transmission mount is toast which explains why it didn't feel quite right. So my total bill just hit $800 including tax. Well, I am getting the trans service and a new mount and the cost is still $30 cheaper then the dealer wanted for just the trans service.
Hopefully I can replace my worn motor mounts this weekend with the new REIN's. My car's rear end is going to be as tight as Gator996's avatar.
Ideally the difference in cost is the labor. My indy charges $135 an hour, the dealer charges $250 an hour. The dealer has much higher costs so it all makes sense. The real issue is who you are most comfortable with doing the work.
I was changing because of age and mileage, 13 years and 76,000 and my reasoning was if felt like it wasn't shifting quite right so I talked to a tech at the dealer who said these transmission are about bullet proof and anytime one was acting like mine it was cured with a trans service.. While draining the fluid yesterday the Indy noticed the trans mount was broken which explains funky feel when powering out of a corner.
Just picked up the car, transmission is shifting really nice and no vibration. I told the tech I would probably change out the motor mounts and he said there was nothing wrong with mine, they are still very tight.
I looked at the bill when I got home and noticed the labor wasn't broken out by hour just the lump some so I thought I would post it.

Some of these guys with their invoices. "Shop Supplies"? Really? Next thing you know they'll have "toilet paper" and "soap" on the invoice. What happened to "the cost of doing business"?
