In fact, this was one thing I checked when I was shopping for a hardtop (in addition to making sure it had matching pins to the mounts in the car).

I guess a simple "Y" connector would not work since it would not be good to have a defroster running on the folded up top when the hardtop is in place.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just had my new top with a glass rear window installed and started thinking about how I will install the hardtop later in the year. I believe I'll have to dig out the defroster connector and switch it from the soft top to the hardtop. I guess a simple "Y" connector would not work since it would not be good to have a defroster running on the folded up top when the hardtop is in place. Has anyone dealt with this; how does this work on the later models with stock glass soft top?

POST 2Original post

Not much help here but both my TOPS (soft and hard) were already "factory wired" for defrosters. In fact, this was one thing I checked when I was shopping for a hardtop (in addition to making sure it had matching pins to the mounts in the car). NTL, best of luck getting this sorted out.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Kromdom, of course both tops are wired, just trying to figure out how the wiring harness accommodates both in the 2002+ cabs. I don't think it will be a big deal - I'll just have unplug-plug when mount or removing the hardtop.

POST 4Original post

You'll find a dual wire harness located on the left bayonet or screw type body receptacle that will be connected when the receptacle is installed. See other threads in this forum that show how this is performed. There is no need to further touch or consider any further actions beyond just removing/installing the hard top. This is of course assuming your vehicle is pre-wired for a rear window defroster.
