Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I recently replaced my brake pads, but I am experiencing very strange behavior with the brake pads light. I would drive down the highway, and after about 30-40 minutes of driving when the car is fully warmed up and wheels are hot, the brake pads warning light would be on out of the blue - even though I did not even step on the brake. I am wondering if there is something wrong with sensors. If so, how do I know which sensor is tripping the warning light? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Did you replace the sensors when you replaced the pads? Once a sensor has been activated, it needs to be replaced.

POST 3Original post

Concur with Dennis. The sensors are a one time deal. Once triggered they will not work correctly again. Either replace sensor(s) or many people zip tie them out of the way. A sensor is about $20 or less. I use them and replace when replacing brake pads. Also, you cannot tell which brake pad wheel sensor is bad, at least as far as I know. Only by process of elimination, or replacing them all front and rear.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I replaced all 4 sensors when I replaced pads... It seems like I have to replace them again. Thank you.

Check the sensor wires. If they are not fastened properly, they rub against the rim or rotor and lose the exterior of the wire and then you get shorts which cause the sensor to come on. Needless to say, if the sensor wire is damaged, you're looking at getting a new one.

POST 7Original post

The sensors are also very fragile. I experienced this when replacing mine, one of the sensors cables got jammed by the retaining bolt when going through. Had the same behaviour as you mention, remembered that I jammed one of the cables, bought a new original one, replaced and the problem disappeared.
