Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 996.2 starts every time, but it turns slow or feels/sounds lazy when starting. Battery is fine. Is the starter motor getting worn out and need replacement? Appreciate any input.

POST 2Original post

Maybe, probably. New starter fixed the same issues with my car. The a fairly easy to rebuild if u have the want. U also need to check the "y" cable that connects it to the bat lug and alt for corosion. Many threads on it if u search.

POST 4Original post

It will probably get worse, especially with hot starts after stopping for gas, etc. New starter and all will be good.

POST 5Original post

Get a new starter mine did the same thing. Then just dies fortunately it was home and in my driveway so no tow needed.

POST 6Original post

Yep. Check the cable, make sure the connections are clean. IF they are, try the starter. It's no super expensive. I got a replacement Bosch at Rock Auto cheap (I'm in Canada). Takes a bit of effort to replace, but not too difficult.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. Going to buy one now.

POST 8Original post

What’s the voltage at the battery terminals when key is on? Sometimes what appears to be a bad starter is in fact a bad battery cable that goes to the starter. The cable can get internal corrosion and build up resistance. Check to see if there is a voltage drop between the positive connection on the starter to ground. Compare that reading to battery terminal voltage to see if there is a difference.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
