Both rear drain tubes were replaced, and the alarm control module dried out...now all that remains are damp carpets and a musty odor.

I had a 924 that leaked horribly, I used those micro-fiber super absorbant towels.

I'm going to double check the front drains just for good measure.

I just removed the mats and have been using towels to soak up the moisture.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So we had a fair amount of rain over the last few days. I got in my car to find the d/s carpets wet. After doing some research on rennlist, i figured one of the rear drains was clogged. Nope. The drain tubes split. Both rear drain tubes were replaced, and the alarm control module dried out...now all that remains are damp carpets and a musty odor. I'm hoping to let the sun dry out the interior this weekend. I'd prefer not to pull the seats and carpet.
Well that really sucks. Can you put a fan in the car to help the drying process? How wet your carpets got will determine whether your carpets will dry without removal. Hope you can do it.
The carpets will never dry in the car. Trust me. Been there, tried that, got a shirt.
If it's one side only you can pull the seat and lift the carpet and try it that way, but it's almost quicker to remove the entire interior.
Don't know if this would help but wouldn't cost much to at least try it. A humidifier inside the sealed car. It's amazing how fast a humidifier can dry out a damp basement in a house. Maybe put the lead in through a rear open window , then seal the opening with masking tape. Sprinkle dry rice on the carpet as well. The rice can be vacuumed up after use. The rice procedure is used in sealed caravans to take away the musty smell. Good luck. Try that for a week, not forgetting to empty the humidifier daily.
That would work MUCH better for this situation!
Actually this won't work well as the moisture will just circulate within the sealed vehicle, unless the water is drained out of the car right away from the dehumidifier rather than remaining inside the cabin.
Thanks for the suggestions gents. I just removed the mats and have been using towels to soak up the moisture. I'm making progress. I will update after this weekend. Thanks again all.
I had a 924 that leaked horribly, I used those micro-fiber super absorbant towels. Every hour I would wring them out and replace. It worked great, and the car didn't smell musty.
So this weekend I lifted the rear carpet, let my car bake in the sun and we are now dry as can be. I'm going to double check the front drains just for good measure. Thanks for all the suggestions. I celebrated by giving her a nice wash and detail.
Hi. Did your immobilizer module survive the incident? I seem to have a very similar problem on my MY99 and not sure if my module is dead or not. Starter will not attempt to even spin. Thanks.
If you live in a hot environment you can also buy some damp-rid and leave your car in the sun for a few days and the damp-rid should absorb most of the residual moisture in the car.
Sorry to hear you're dealing with that. It did survive. I picked up some moisture absorbers from a marine supply store. That helped. I also left my top down and let the sun dry it as much as possible. It worked for me. Good luck!
I have the same problem after the San Francisco rain this weekend. Drivers carpet is wet and smells like damp dog.
Where are the drain tubes located? My car is a 2001 996 sunroof coupe.
I also noticed a round hole in the front drivers wheel well - should there be some kind of rubber grommet in there?
