Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

check out the article on cars to buy at certain levels. in the 15k I think they call it risky section, they recommend a 99-2000 996.

POST 2Original post

That is a risk. But it's a pretty well calculated risk that can be even lower with a LN IMSB replacement at which point it becomes a tremendous value. One that I took advantage of within the last 6 months!

POST 3Original post

Is there a link to said article, or is it print?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I subscribe to print mag, so not sure if is online

POST 5Original post

I just saw this last night when I received the new magazine. I figured something would be posted on 996 forum about it. I think it said the chassis is like an anvil and engine like potato chips, or something along those lines... Correction: I looked at the article again and it said structurally like an anvil and mechanically like a potato chip...

POST 7Original post

At least they didn't say it was like kale chips. Those reek.

POST 10Original post

Ya, i did the LN IMSB on my 2002 C2 @ 30k miles.... Still lost engine with under 50k miles !

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 12012918

Oh wow. Bummer. That is low miles for an engine to fail. What was the root cause or do you know?

POST 15Original post

I bet it costs less to keep even a problematic 996 on the road than it does to maintain the Bentley Turbo R they also mention...

POST 16Original post

Most $15K 996s are going to cost a lot more than that. Just saying.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 12017050

Most $25K 996's cost a lot more than $25K too.

POST 18Original post

Wow! A "second-tier turd". Sometimes word do hurt...

POST 19Original post

I eat potato chips while driving the crap out of my 996...laughing all the way! I love my car.
