Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone, I installed a Sprint Booster on my 04' C2 tiptronic cab, and wanted to give a little bit of a review. I must say, before I purchased this I was quite skeptical. I mean something that plugs into the accelerator and "tricks" a remap of the throttle position I thought could be a bit hokey. However since my car is a tip there is a decent amount of lag at times when not driven in manual mode, and anything that could potentially help this I thought would be worth a shot. So I ordered this from GMPPerformance who was a amazing to work with by the way. The shipped the Sprint Booster quickly, and when it arrived with a broken switch, they sent out a new switch ASAP without question. I would definitely buy from them again. Now back to the booster. Once I had a functioning unit, I went to install it. I have to say the install was a major PIA. This plugs in between the accelerator module and the plug that goes into it. Well on the 996 even with drive by wire, the accelerator pedal itself actually has a cable on it. This cable runs up under the dash to the electronic module with the plug on it. So to get the booster installed means laying on your back upside down under the dash. This is not comfortable at all for someone who is six foot tall and 200lbs. Once under the dash comes installing this thing. I have to say the fitment of the Sprint Booster is a bit lacking. It does not plug in as nicely as the factory plug but with a lot of playing around you can get it to plug in and stay. I have to say I thought I had it plugged in once and it turned out to be loose. I took the car for a drive and there was no response from the accelerator. I ended up back under the dash in a parking lot fixing the install. Now for how this thing actually performs. I have to say, at least for a tip car, this is the best $275 I have ever spent. The unit functions with a switch that has three modes, off, medium, and aggressive. I took the car for a drive in the medium mode, and I have to say it did exactly what I wanted. All the places where there was a lag, or there seemed to be a flat spot in the throttle, the car pulled like a freight train. I have yet to try driving it in the more aggressive mode, but in the medium one, it makes the car drive the way it should have from the factory. I know that this part doesn't actually make any more power, but it definitely helps the drive ability of a tip car. Now I will also say, I have driven a six speed 911, and I probably wouldn't recommend this product for you. The stick cars don't seem to suffer from the same lag, due to always being in the proper gear, and not losing a bit of power due to the presence of a slush box, but for us slush box guys, this mod is a no brainer in my opinion. So I just wanted to give an unbiased review of this product by someone who has actually given it a shot. I hope this helps

+996.........I abandoned my plan to do this mod after reading the article above last year

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just read the article and absolutely disagree with it. T I've run the car to WOT with the sprint booster installed and there is no dead zone at the end at all. With the stock throttle it wasn't linear at all. There was a lag and an exponential increase as it was depressed more. With the booster the throttle seems much more linear throughout. I am actually finding better precision as the throttle was jerk before because it had to be pressed so much from a stop to get the car to go. This is just my review as an actual user. Take it as you will.

POST 7Original post

I can tell you with absolute certainty and personal experience that on a 996 with e-throttle, the Sprint Booster works great! ...and I am by nature highly skeptical of these type of things. Hands down the best mod I made to my 996, even with my 6-speed. Overpriced? Yup. Simple concept that shouldn't be required? Again, Yup. But on a 996, it fixes the throttle response to the way it should have been from the factory. You might also note that the above referenced article was nothing but pontification by guesses and unsupported analysis... Did he actually try one? No. Did he even buy one and test it electronically? Again, no. Did he even talk to a fellow 4x4'er with one installed? Again, no. Instead he intellectually reverse engineered it to "how it must work" in his mind and then again concluded, with zero empirical data, that it must not be of benefit. And presented it in a seemingly scholarly way with charts and graphs. Pseudo-sience of the highest order... But again, in personal experience rather than blowhard intellectual analysis , in a 996, it is night and day. It does not make the car any faster, just much more responsive and fun to drive. But don't believe me... If in doubt, buy one on amazon, plug it in, and if it doesn't wow you, send it back.

Hadn't read this before my previous reply... This is SPOT ON. What it seems to do (again, in a 996) is not introduce non-linearity in the throttle, but rather fix the stock non-linear throttle to me more linear. I loved it street and even more on the track...

POST 9Original post

Agree with this... Install is not difficult per-se, but it is difficult to get jammed down into the footwell facing up to get to the connector. And if you don't seat the connectors all the way until they lock, the throttle goes into limp mode. I did later discover that access to this throttle connecotr is actually quite easy from the center dash behind the horseshoe... I had the radio out to install my custom iPad, the connector and sprint-booster where in easy reach. It still might be easier to bear the discomfort of wedging yourself into the footwell to install, but if you are simply to big to fit or cant get access for other reasons, pull the radio/a.c. control and access through the opening.

POST 10Original post

I think this is a great mod for a daily driver, its like the resonator delete. It enhances the driving experience, it does make the throttle seem more responsive and easier to modulate. I had them in my Boxser and , 2 cayennes and in the 996. I do feel its better appreciated in a triptronic. You don't have to floor it trying to merge in traffic.. I like it because it doesn't change any of the "stock maps". The experience is real, I turned it off in the Cayenne when towing, and had forgot to turn it back on before my wife drove it (her DD). She told me the something was wrong with the car, it was sluggish and seemed to surge when she accelerated, really it took more pedal to accelerate the car. I schedule a service appoinment and on the way to the dealership i realised that the Sprint was off. Typically we leave them on the Green mode. The Red mode is essentially ***** to the wall with any pedal pressure. I definitely would recommend it.

Just wait til the next time you are swapping out the electrical portion of the ignition switch! Lay a towel over the door sill to make it more comfortable.

POST 13Original post

So I'm assuming this mod is only designed for and noticeable with triptronic transmissions?

POST 15Original post

I have one in my 6 speed manual. Works great!
