This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'only way' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'only way' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill scratch in' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also, an experienced guy can fill scratch in with paint and blend so you will never know scratch was there.

As for scratches, they can fill the scratches usually if they are deep.

They did my wifes $21,000 repair bill in her Audi Q5 when a Lyft driver hit her.

Question: do body shops have to pull the panel off for a repair like this?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Said the wife, when she put her mountain bike by the garage access door. I opened the door and the bike fell on the car, and scratched and dented my passenger rear quarter panel.
I was nearly sick about it the whole next day, lol.
Anyway, I need to have a good body shop repair it. Are these panels galvanized and do I need to find a specialty shop to do that?
Whoops
5 long scratch to the shiny metal. One large gulf-ball-looking impact with a BB-sized metal dent showing paint, and a much smaller dent below that.
Skip the body shop. Do to a paintless dent repair shop. Way cheaper and they do just incredible work. Some shops are movile and will come to your house to remove the dents. As for scratches, they can fill the scratches usually if they are deep.
I had a dent remover guy pull out a dent on my front fender to absolute perfection. The dent came from me walking around the car with my portable air compressor. Dented the side but did not scratch the paint fortunately.
Just had a couple good puckers pulled outta my rear quarter panel by a paintless dent remover....he comes to my local shop every couple weeks, didn't really have any paint damage on mine and they came out great. Some ahole rammed his door or giant cooler into my car at a local brewery as he was struggling to get it back in the car.
I have a small dent on the inside of my hood. Don't ask how it got there and whose fault it was. Wonder if the PDR guys can do an "outie" as well as they do "inies"?
Agree with the advice on dent removal vs. body shop. My brothers car was in Dallas hailstorm, looked like it had been worked over with a ball peen hammer. Dent removal guy worked miracles. Looks brand new. Also, an experienced guy can fill scratch in with paint and blend so you will never know scratch was there. Check out some videos on YouTube to see how its done. Takes some time, but no need to repaint entire rear panel.
So I sent my PDR guy the pics, and he didn't think he could do it.He said that the ding portion is pretty tough and the dings are sharp. He also asked if I would be good with just touch up paint on the scratch - suggesting that if a respray is required in that specific location, might as well repair that entire area with a conventional body shop.
Question: do body shops have to pull the panel off for a repair like this? I worry that a shop that doesn't know porsche 911s would/could end up affecting other components of the car if they have to take off mufflers, or any other parts near the convertible top, etc. Is my concern justified?
I know it's hard to diagnose with pictures, but I will try to get more pics for better visibility.
When I needed a body shop for the first time, I asked my indie for a recommendation. He sent me to a shop that does all of the body work for his customers. They did a great job and they are my go-to shop whenever I need work done - four times so far. If you have a trusted indie, I would ask for a recommendation.
This! Exactly what I did and it worked out great. My pic is above in previous post shows in process. Can't tell it ever happened now. Another thought is ask the local P-car people.
Usually, that panel isn't removable in the traditional sense, not sure how it is on the 996. A lot of times they have to cut out and weld in a donor piece from another car. I am not sure if they need to be that aggressive in this case it depends on how bad the dent is.
Mike, try A & L Autobody in Palatine, ask for Val
he understands Porsche customers
lot is full of MB / BMW / Porsche

Again, this panel does not come off. If it needs to come off it's going to cost a significant amount of money because they will have to cut the entire quarter out, find a donor car and weld a new quarter in. You do not need to cut the whole thing out unless the damage is unrepairable. Even if they cant pull it out and refinish that area you can still cut a small section out and weld a patch in. Then the panels would all need to be blended to make the paint match. I would go to a few different body shops and get an estimate, I've found in my area the good ones all tend to be within $50 bucks of each other so I just go to the same people.
Yeah, plus door and strip that goes above door and becomes the strip along the windshield. I had four dings/scratches/scrapes. I don't think panel comes off without a gas axe as far as I can tell. Parts list shows entire back of car as one piece.
I ended up taking my car to E&M Autobody in River Grove, IL. They did my wifes $21,000 repair bill in her Audi Q5 when a Lyft driver hit her. That turned out nice, and they only charged me $500 for a job they said would normally be $1100-$1200.
What sold me on these guys is a 964 that was in the shop at the time, as well as a couple Ferraris...
I really cannot tell at all any work was done. It looks completely original and there are no lines.
Ill try to get a picture at some point.
