Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I would simply say it is a buyer beware transaction, get an inspection, have an owner of a 993 test drive the example for you on-site, even better with you in the car with them.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I googled them. Bad to Mixed. A good portion of the complaints seem in common with most other specialty dealers. Im planning to do an independent PPI, but just trying to avoid any known evils- wa curious about personal experiences anyone here may have had.
Man it super difficult to find a 996 with the right combo of what I want ( 6spd, coupe, color, trim, condition, etc) and a seller who is reasonably human. Been on the hunt for a couple months.
Learning a lot. Thanks.
A used car dealer who can only sell the inventory of 25-year-old cars he can source. Invariably he gets some cars that have difficulty being sold in private channels due to condition issues.
I would simply say it is a buyer beware transaction, get an inspection, have an owner of a 993 test drive the example for you on-site, even better with you in the car with them. Have a picture of the original title emailed to you to make sure the car is actually available for sale before investing in the time/money/effort needed to qualify the car as a purchase candidate. If you are not willing to do the above, it may be best to leave it alone.

I think even the best exotic type car dealers have issues like this. Seriously, GET AN INSPECTION! GET AN INSPECTION! GET AN INSPECTION!
I do not feel sorry for people who buy sight unseen with no inspection. You have to realize that anything like a 20 plus year old expensive used german car is going to look great in photos.
You have to lay eyes on every purchase like this. I have sold cars that I thought were close to mint, that people complained about and I have also sold cars that were not great and the buyer remarked about the "great condition"
It is very subjective and every vintage car dealer goes through this. Also, in most states the car can break down on the way home and the seller is not responsible. These are not Honda Civics. There is a lot of personal responsibility that any
buyer should have when making these purchases. Most people just blame the seller. After the car is sold they don't owe you anything. The people who should be tarred and feathered in forums like this are dealers who steal or are dishonest.
All of this can be avoided by people doing their due diligence. All of those negative reviews were from people who didn't do theirs.
996s are made in much bigger numbers than 993s and I'm surprised you found the one and only at Victory. That said, if Victory let you bring the car for an indy PPI, you should be good to proceed. There are no lack of good Porsche shops in Houston.
This being a 996, what model year? Are you familiar w/ the infamous IMS bearing issues? If it breaks, the repair expense would likely be close to or exceed your purchase price. All 996s regardless of model year are affected; in particular for MY99-00.
If you know what IMS refers to, ignore my next sentence. If not, and pardon my sounding condescending, you're not ready for a 996, IMHO.
Cheers and good hunting.
Don't wish to be confrontative but the 99-2000 most likely have the dual row bearings which have a lesser failure rate than later 996's with the single row bearings. They can still fail but at a lower rate.
I'd keep in mind that inspections are not infallible. Some issues may not reveal themselves without extensive shakedown. Some issues may simply be missed. It's not a talisman against bad dealers. Been there, done that.
Buying a car from a bad dealer can be an utterly miserable experience and sour your feeling about the car.
Yes I am familiar with the IMS issue and most of the other potential biggies. 996 is still the car for me. This car has IMS, rear main seal and clutch all done recent, and 52k, and all options I am looking for.
I am going to pass mostly because i live in the NW and just cant manage a week vacation in Houston right now.
Trusting that someday the right car will become avail closer to me. In the mean time I am going to continue to learn and prepare for the reality... and save my shekels!!
thanks!
I've recently have been considering selling my '99 C2.
It has about 86k on car w/about 12k on a Flat6Innovations Stage 1 Street Performer 3.4 to 3.6., Nickies, IMS Solution, etc.
Other notables are, full leather, red brake upgrade, 18" turbolook "hollow spokes", 6MT
Well maintained, not driven winters, climate controlled garaged.
The bad....Opposite coast from you.

Hi,
I also recently had considered buying from Victory. There was a high mileage black on black for just under $15k with two binders full of service history. By the time I called it had sold the day before. But hed recently taken in a low mileage example in arctic silver and wanted $22k for it. My brother works 5 minutes away from Victory and stopped in to check it out for me. It had a couple broken or missing interior parts, there was no service history and no record of if the IMS had been addressed. Dealer didnt let him crank it.
Too many red flags, but I had no idea that Victory was a known bad dealership. Of course I had not yet joined Rennlist yet either...
Thanks for this info
Curious how long ago you saw the low mi silver C2? Wonder if its the same one Im looking at now? They supposedly got it in fall of last year. Replaced IMS, clutch, etc last month.
What do you mean?
Ridiculous. I love the ads that are like "Not seeing the car unless you have cash in hand" Like yeah buddy I am not bringing 30k in cash to meet with a stranger.
It was early December when I talked to them about that one. Last I checked, it was still on cars.com. It looks like they repaired the broken interior bits, and if hes done the IMS, etc, I wouldnt worry about it... but I do think his asking price is above market value.
