Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I decided to check my oil since the electric gauge was showing low. Oil on dipstick and level looked perfect, but I dont remember seeing this before. Its been cold here in Sacramento California the last couple days of that helps...

POST 2Original post

Happens in certain situations when the car is not driven enough to properly heat up the oil and drive the moisture out of the oil. I.E. short trips. Not a big deal. Drive it more and for longer times.

POST 3Original post

Normal, even when I drove my 996 daily, I still had this every now and then... Its caused by the condensation in the tube and that mixes a little water with oil.

POST 4Original post

A lot of times when I pull into the garage I pop the engine lid, rotate the latch down into the lock position so the engine compartment light goes out,and remove the oil filler cap to allow the condensation to escape. I go back a little later and button things up. I leave the deck lid open, as a reminder.....................

POST 5Original post

Cool ... I am going to take away your fears (and your breath). This is how mine looks every winter. Humid climate and car sleeping outside. Driven almost everyday. Oil analysis completely clean. Coolant levels rock solid. It doesnt matter how long I drive the car. During driving the top side of the engine stays too cold (in winter) and will never be able to dissolve the gunk. Only when ambient temperatures are high enough it will let the heat soak after a drive do its magic. It starts around October when night temperatures start to drop. When summer comes and ambient temperatures rise it disappears like snow in the sun.

POST 6Original post

IMS has failed, bore scoring has started, AOS is shot...... Or its just condensation.

Wow. I've never seen anything like this on any of my Cars, especially my 996. Don't drive mine in winter or store outside.

POST 8Original post

^ That's significantly more shmoo than I've ever seen in my filler tube - but the San Diego climate isn't exactly extreme.

POST 9Original post

happens to my car all the time, i let mine sit outside under a tarp
