They have recommended just replacing R cat to save expense since I am trying to sell vehicle.

Any suggestions for the cat repair/replacement with price/make of part?

�02 C2 75k mi. NA, I have had an intermittent CE light since putting vehicle on a lot for consignment Previously I could extinguish light by driving at higher rpms for a period of approximately 5-6 minutes. Also, about 1-2 years ago a bad coil was suspected for a misfire and CE light. Checked by one tech who diagnosed a loose air box. Perspective buyer had a PPI done at a very reputable inde shop who diagnosed failing cats about 1.5 weeks later. I don�t know if CE light is back on because I have been out of town. PPI shop quoted approximately $2300 for cats/x pipe part ($1550 for part), plus 3-4h labor. Also a starter motor sound predicting starter failure, parts and labor approximately $1000.
Does the DME read differentiate between bad cats and bad sensors? Is there a test to differentiate? Other possible reasons for CE light that should be explored? What would the failing starter sound like?
Any suggestions for the cat repair/replacement with price/make of part? Starter also?
new question. The intermittent CE light was diagnosed as R side cat fail by reputable independent repair shop. They have recommended just replacing R cat to save expense since I am trying to sell vehicle. If I decide to keep car for awhile, is there a long range down side to just doing the one side, or should I do both to save replacement of L in near future? Also, will there be a big difference in back pressure or stress on left side from this single replacement?
i guess I should decide if I am going to keep car foe 1-2 years more?
The car is probably being short tripped by test drivers,, wet soaking the cats, and all kinds of fun.
Your braver than me.. I cant imagine a consignment lot making sure the engine is properly warmed up
before a full throttle pull.
To check cats use a infrared thermometer. The cat will be working if temp of exterior is about 100 degrees hotter than header.

The computer does know whether it is a bad cat or a bad sensor. Nothing is fool-proof but it can tell the difference. If I were a buyer, I would insist on Porsche branded cats especially in California. Having a CEL makes it sales-proof.
