Update: installed these last night and am really impressed with the sound, not to mention the service & ease of working with Darin.

I just had mine installed yesterday and the mufflers are sweet
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Best Mod i've done so far..really amazing sound!
So i ordered the Fister-D exhaust Mod from Darin Fister last week, the service was amazing, i had tracking immediatley & the exhaust was here within 2 days.
UPS tried to deliver it yesterday but i missed them, so i called & went down to the UPS facility & picked it up, today i woke up on a MISSION- Find nearest midas, or whatever shop can install...Was hard to find a place in Scottsdale, but finally i found a place a bit pricey $95 hour labour, but i was determined to get it on today. Took them 2 hours because my clamps on my old exhaust were rusted so the old one took a while to get off, but FISTER slipped right in.
The guy started the car and WOW! the best part it is NOT TOO LOUD & ANNOYING! Its a Classy grownup growl..u hit the gas and u hear it, it purrs..not like a mustang & not like a honda, LIKE A PORSCHE SHOULD!
Only problem is now i'm always driving at high rpms to keep hearing that beautiful purr..lol..
Thanks so much Darin. Guys FISTER D PSE HAck has to be one of your FIRST MODS, the guys at the shop didn't believe the price, it cost me almost the exact same to install (because of my own rusted clamps on my old exhaust) as it did to buy! again THANKS Darin for making this affordable mod available to us!
**WILL MAKE A NICE YOUTUBE VID OF THE SOUND LATER ON***
You will be amazed...finally a mod you can actually feel! Also i HATE loud annoying show off exhausts, Fister D sounds Perfect, like i said "Grown Up sound" dare i say for some reason i like it better than the Porsche Sports Exhaust sound?
I just got mine in last week, and yes, they sound amazing! I agree with the descriptions of the sound - it's just perfect.
I hate to say it, but Darin Fister is not charging enough for these - they are worth much more!
any idea if these would void an aftermarket warranty? Ive saved enough for my first mod, but im worried if i do a 'performance' mod and something happens..the warranty company, easycare, will just make a blanket statement and say the mod was the reason the repair was needed. Still have 2 years on b2b warranty.
before and after youtube videos are AWESOME for this exhaust
Kardeşim...Hayırlı olsun.Maşalllah..
I am very happy to see your mods.
I love the exhaust voice.
And i think your p cars voice is better.
fourty one times maşallah. 41 kere maşallah
Andd i want a video of your exhaust voice. İf it is possible
Hey Tarek...didja get the #1 or #2? I have #2 and love it but want louder now Maybe some bypass pipes for a week will solve that.
SS911....Love your posts! Exhaust "voice"
(not laughing at you, just laughing, um, well, near you) No really, keep coming back and we'll get that "pig" of yours running and humming with a great "voice".
I am new to the forum with only having the car for about a month and already looking at changing the sound. Do you have a sound clip, price or even a website to purchase.
I'm glad you like them! Looking forward to your video.
Thanks guys!
Hmmm....
It will do nothing to harm your car in any way. I know what you are saying though, these warranty companies look for any reason not to honor their agreements.
Yeah, what he said...
This is the mod I do on almost all 996/997s. I initially called it "Stage II" because I did offer a quiter mod initially. The Stage II is now
the
Fister mod, so all the reviews and videos you see of "Fister" mufflers are of this mod (formerly known as Fister Stage II.)

Unless I missed it, I didn't see a digital recording of a Fister D, but I'm not on my regular computer. Can someone describe the sound - as compared to the baseline muffler?
Can't wait to get mine in. I ordered them back in January and am waiting on Darin to get some returned OEM for the mod. I'll post something once I'm in business.
Can't wait.....
There are actually plenty of videos on YouTube. This is one of the best, with before and after:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nk5mQL78TY
I recently drove an '02 cab with Fisters. Sound was exactly what I want - no droning at highway speeds with a more aggressive sound on acceleration and then a real deep growl over 4K RPM.
Anybody know how it compares to Afterhours' "girlfriend approved" model, both in terms of sound and power output? I'm online at 35K feet, so please don't zing me for not searching archive. Connection just ain't that fast. ;-)
Went over to Darin"s shop last week to have them installed on my, new to me, "04 C2 Cab. What a difference this mod makes. Now it sounds like it should. Lots of growl with throttle but quiet, like stock, when cruising. Very much worth it. Also, Darin was great to work with. Was ready for me when I arrived a little early and had it in within an hour. Great to do business with a real enthusiast and good mechanic.
Sonoma - thanks for the review. Exactly what I thought when I drove a 996 cab with the mufflers.
Unfortunately I can't just go over to Darin's and must patiently wait on UPS. Funny thing, I grew up in Lafayette and Concord!
Arrived yesterday and installed today. Work was a pain as the old brackets and bolts were very rusty (my car is originally from the northeast). Lots of heating and cutting. Cost 2 hours of labor and some replacement parts.
And?????
They sound bloody stunning. Great noise just when you want it. Can't wait to get the car out on the road with the windows down. Or find a long tunnel. Anyone with a 996 should get these. No question.
Based on my readings here, I just placed an order for the Fister upgrade...I guess I'll just have to watch the youtube videos while I wait!
Curious, what was the turnaround time on your order? I'm thinking it's longer that I imagine!
The answer is related to how fast people return mufflers and whether you have a 99-01 or an 02-4. I waited two months, but Darin told me that he had gotten a string of 996.1 mufflers in. Additionally, not all the returns are in good enough condition for him to reuse.
So it is a bit of a crap shoot. Of course you can pull yours off and send to him for a much faster turnaround. While impatient, I did not go that route. I just wanted the new mufflers for spring - and a PCA event I am doing later in April in the mountains of WV. Tunnels!
I actually went out in the garage late last night and revved the engine for a while. Just sounds awesome... and the way it should have originally.
Get started by taking the day off, jacking the car up and remove the old mufflers, this way you won't have to wait as long to wake up the meighbors after the Fister D's arrive.
Be warned! Fister D mufflers will have an immediate negative impact on gas mileage... You just can't help blipping the throttle and giving it extra gas at every opportunity just to hear that sound.
A price I will happily pay.
Finally warm enough here to drive with the windows down, so I (along with everyone else) finally got to experience my Fisters at full song in the local tunnel yesterday.
It was GLORIOUS.
i have a PSE on my car.. will this "hack" make it louder than what it already is? or is the PSE louder than the fister hack and the hack is made for those cars without the PSE
is this the valve that turns on and off PSE via the button? cause i tore off that resister that automatically cuts it between 27-43mph
basically i'm asking, if i get the fister hack, will my PSE be louder or no?
SubzeroX, I'm not sure that you can do the fister hack on PSE cans. Plus I would imagine you could trade your PSE set up for stock cans and $$.
I had PSE-hacked mufflers and now Fister mufflers, and the Fisters are most certainly louder.
just came back from darins shop... not as loud as i thought it would be but thats good. and no drone. amazing quality and super nice guy. just had to add another thumbs up to an already proven product.
Just had my local shop do the fister style mod, sounds amazing at all rpm and engine loads, not too loud (if it's too loud, you're too old!) no drone.
Love it!
Darin,
I just had mine installed yesterday and the mufflers are sweet
I opted for the ceramachrome finish and my local installer, Mandrel Bend Solutions, in Pasadena, MD did a great job installing the system and fitting the tips
No drone, just the right amount of "bark" at higher RPMs.
I wanted to thank you again for your excellent, personal service you provided and the turnkey approach you have with your business.
The cores are on their way back.
If you are on the fence about this modification, get off and enjoy the sound!
KNola
I ordered a cerachrome Fister D last week.
They were pretty busy, but do you guys know how long it normally takes to get one of these after you order one?
thanks!
can someone post some youtube or Vimeo links to YOUR exhaust sound of the Fisters?
otherwise there are generic sound clips on google...
This Fister Mod intrigues me for the C4S if it is noise wife friendly until you start to breath on it.
So the bark starts in the 4-5-6K range? with the occasional down shift or blip at a stop sign?
there is a Stage 1 and Stage II. Was stage one a newer gen? then Stage II is current?
I know there has been much tuning of pipe diameter over the generations.
sorry if these are noobie questions. Only had my 996 less than 6 months and am still learning from you grand masters.
Kab1994 said that he got his in 2 days maybe less. I spoke to Darin personally when I ordered.
I ordered on 3/16 and does not communicate much so I don't think I am really getting anything.
Is there another sport muffler mod that is like Fister's? I heard about an RSR...but they look like another extra pipe.
Normal for him to have a backlog and for there to be a wait. A few years ago when I ordered mine I think he said I was looking at 3-4 weeks. Sure enough he called when he had the order ready to go and checked in with me to make sure that I still wanted them.

Thank you Blrmkr,
He did tell me hew was busy when I talked to him. And my luck, I write this and he sends me a note that it will be done next week. Yes!!
thanks!
I received my set of FisterD mufflers yesterday and installed them this afternoon. Installation was a breeze using the instructions Darin emailed me. I let the car warm up to temperature and then went for a drive. All I can say is WOW! This is by far the best upgrade I have done to my 996.
I am glad you are enjoying them!
Shipping today!!!!!
I appreciate that. I try hard to keep everyone happy. Sometimes it is overwhelming with the amount of orders and inquiries I get. I am bringing in my son this summer to work with me full time. That should help a bunch!
This mod sounds awesome, but I was wondering what the 1" vs the 2" does to the tone of the exhaust, as I can understand 2" gives it a deeper tone than compared to 1"? And is the 2" the measured diameter of the inside of the piping used?
Regards
Carl
I'm anxious to have Darin perform this mod for me. Unless I am mistaken he only offers one modification for the 996 mufflers. Not sure what diameter pipe he uses.
What is the consensus on the coatings that are available? Is it worth the extra amount to do this? For those who have coated muffler's do you perceive a difference in how much heat there seems to be coming from the cans after parking your car?
I had mine coated and commented on another thread that I thought my engine compartment ran cooler since my fan did not kick on as much as usual. Many thought I was crazy but still feel the same way. Not tested just a personal observation.
bump for good service from Darin. I put on a system that's not exactly in line with my use & shocker! it's too loud
. So, now I have my OEM cans in the mail & should have them in a few weeks. Should have done this on day 1.
I replaced my coils and plugs last week, took the exhaust off....the previous owner (who I don't know, bought it from a dealer) did the mod....and based on the quality of work, I'm going to say that this is Darin's work. Haven't seen it before, but everybody else who posts pictures of a local shop doing it is nothing like this.
I love my Fister!
Update: installed these last night and am really impressed with the sound, not to mention the service & ease of working with Darin. I've spent some time messing around with different mods to breathe some life into the sound and this mod is the single best $ per smile factor I've found.
My intention with the fisters was sound only, but I did see a youtube video this week where a guy tested fisters & the IPD plenum against OEM. He noted 3rwhp improvement with the fisters (unkonwn with IPD due to testing issues) but it was a one-day, side-by-side test. I think a better test would be to let the ECU adapt to the different hardware and test, but I'm not a dynocologist.
Great, thanks for the info. I wasn't really concerned with power gain but rather loss in performance by changing back pressure without adjusting anything else like the tune. It sounds like that isn't the case.
I swung through FD Motorsports this morning - since I'm moving soon, I figured I might as well take care of this while I was somewhat local.
Butt dyno readings are, in fact, excellent.
I'm running at around 20% higher smiles per gallon (and significantly better than that in $/smile).
For some reason my transmission wants to stick a gear lower than it used to. No idea why
Also, Darin is great to work with. I highly recommend getting this done at his shop if you ever have an excuse to be in the area.
It really depends on what model/year you have. The mufflers are extremely popular and core exchanges take some time to complete: shipping out, installing, shipping back. I only have so many cores that I own so sometimes there gets to be a bit of a backlog due to the high demand. We work our butts off to get them out as quickly as possible.
If you can send your mufflers in for direct modification, there is no waiting. We get them turned around quickly.
Wow, i made this thread 6 years ago when i had my 996, now i'm on my 2nd 997S and guess what, of course i also still ROCK THE FISTER D and it is stil the best mod for the money EVER- followed by clear side markers lol ...you can hear the sound here in this new video clip i made last weekened driving at angeles crest hwy
You Tube
How do I know if my mufflers are acceptable cores? The website says, "not dented, cracked, overly rusty or having internal rattles". What is "overly rusty?"
I would think that surface rust would be okay but anything structural would not be accepted. I sent my mufflers to Darin 8 years ago and I still love the sound.
For all the FD converts, what's your assessment on viability for daily use? 5:00AM wakeups, commute to the office, running errands... the whole lot. What say ye?
-Joe
Its fine, just make sure you tip toe with throttle and shift at lower RPM, it only growls with wider throttle openings. On the highway you would hardly hear it cruising along with steady throttle.
