Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Buy a cheaper one on eBay Nice noisemaker Adds a great intake sound at wide open throttle

POST 3Original post

+1 for Peteb3's comment. Gives a nice intake noise, no noticeable change in power (nor, frankly, should there be). You can get the Schnell version (without fancy CF cover) for around $100 on sale, which is what I did.

POST 4Original post

I have the fabspeed one in the link. Fitted great with the beveled ends, about 15 mins and adds a little more growl to the sound of my 3.4. If you want to go real cheap do a search on "orange cap mod". I thought the car deserved a little better.

+2, went on eBay and for $50 got some nice noise

POST 6Original post

It's a great mod, but a $35-$50 mod, not IMHO a $250. Silicone hose from ebay. Optionally upgrade the hose clamps to t-bolt style, any racing shop. 1-1/2" rubber pipe cap on airbox. [note that this rubber cap is for cosmetics and a dust cap only... The hole that you are capping is a separate resononance chamber. leaving it open wouldn't allow air to suck in to the airbox in any way, it might just collect water or junk. In fairness, fabspeed does provide an extra part of with their kit that eliminates the resonance chamber. The most notable improvement with either the cheap ebay hose or the fabspeed kit is the fabulous intake sound. Fabspeed claims there is also an improvement by removing the resonance chamber completely, effectively giving the airbox more 'volume'. It's debatable that this would cause any noticeable or measurable improvement... The 996 has a pretty free flowing airbox.

POST 7Original post

I have the Fabspeed kit and as said above by 996_North, the car deserves this quality well engineered piece.

POST 8Original post

I've got the same hose pictured above that never made it on my car. I was going to buy the CF cap from fabspeed which they quoted me at $25. I figured for $25 it look much better than some ABS piping. PM me if your interested.

What size clamps did you use for the hose? I just bought this set up from Fabspeed and would like to order the clamps online. Thanks!

Those beefy clamps actually come with the $25 intake hose, believe it or not. I'm actually surprised that the Fabspeed unit doesn't come with some beefy clamps instead of reusing the cheap stock ones. Best bet would be to drop by your local hardware store.

POST 11Original post

Fabspeed product doesn't come with the clamps and when I called them they couldn't even tell me what size to use. Not very helpful at all. I'm looking to buy from these guys http://www.ebay.com/itm/130363931869?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITBut I'm not sure what size to buy.

POST 12Original post

Why not use your factory clamps? That's what I did when I had the Schnell piece.

The ones I want look much nicer, are all stainless and I'm sure function better. When I installed new exhaust tips I went with aftermarket all stainless steel exhaust clamps. Much better than the OEM. In my opinion.
