In one case they replaced all of my tires for me afterwards, in the other they just remounted the tires I already had.

The previous owner used some kind of putty or bondo to hold the wing on instead of fixing it properly.

Suggestion
I would leave it as is, you could replace the Taco with a factory retractable spoiler fairly easily, but like noted above the skirts and rear splats may not be removed without needing some TLC.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello All: i dont think my previous post on this issue didn’t made it through..
Here goes again.....
i have just bought a 2001 996 in Seal grey. It came with an OEM aerokit that has now been confirmed to be OEM parts by my local Porsche dealership. The seller strongly believed it was installed at the factory when the car was built. But there is no evidence of that on the options sticker in the front trunk. The kit that is installed includes a “Taco” spoiler and what look to be GT sideskirts. There are slo small flares toward the rear bumpers but i dont know what they are called. They are all in Seal grey.
I have two questions that i hope someone could shed some light on:
1). Does an OEM aerokit add value to the car at resale? I prefer the original lines of the 996 but dont want to do anything stupid; and
2) if i were to have them removed, would anyone know what a fair price for them would be? As far as i can tell they are printing (as is the rest of the car)
thanks in advance,
I believe if the option is not listed, then it could have been installed at dealer, Indie, or elsewhere. I don't think 90% of buyers will care where the kit was installed, as long as it's a quality install with OEM parts. The aero package certainly increases the value of the car - the value it increases it by will probably be subjective. I would be willing to spend $5000 more on a vehicle with the OEM kit. That is cheaper than sourcing every part individually, painting to match, and installing so I think $5000 is fair and reasonable. The side skirts are drilled into the bottom of the rocker panel, so you probably don't want to remove them and leave exposed holes. The fender liners are also slightly different, or they have been trimmed for the side skirts. I think you're better off leaving the aero kit installed. I think a MK 1 996 with aerokit is one of the best looking 996's (I'm biased as I have one...). I personally like the aerokit sans rear bumper spatulas.
If it was factory there would be an XAA option code on the frunk sticker, if not then it was likely added afterwards like Sweet Victory suggests.
Can't really speak on behalf of the worth, but people do look periodically for OEM aerokit parts. You can get majority of the parts off SunCoast and it would be upwards of $12k ($5k front bumper, $5k spoiler, $1k skirts, $1k rear splats), although I don't know if they sell a genuine Taco or not.
I would leave it as is, you could replace the Taco with a factory retractable spoiler fairly easily, but like noted above the skirts and rear splats may not be removed without needing some TLC.
Thanks SV. I have only had the car for a few days (and it is garaged for the winter) but this is very helpful. And thank you for letting me know the correct term is spatula. Maybe i will take it slow and see if the package grows on me. It certainly will not grow on the nice old lady who walked by the car yesterday and in an impeccable British accent commented: “oh my, look who is a boy racer”........
Leave the Aerokit installed.
It does add value to the car.
Of course if you really want the non-Taco deck, I'll trade you mine for your factory Seal gray Taco.
The 996.1 side skirts do have screws to hold on the side skirts.
The 996.2 does not.
Those are called "Spats", not "spatulas."
But maybe Spats are short for spatulas...what do I know?

It is, and honestly didn't know anything about factory "aero option" when purchased. Looked at some C2's, 4's, and a 997 while shopping but this popped up and the taco sold it (along with a few other attributes).
I was on the fence about the aero on my car but have learned to love it. I wish mine had the correct taco wing but my later mk2 wing still works. Dont forget this kit is slso functual, porsche matched the bumpers and wing to add a bunch if down force for high speed driving
Get a regular decklid with wiring harness - swap out when you want. Mark the mounting bolt locations. It's not that difficult.
Hang on to the original.
The hardest part is finding a safe place for the rear deck when it's not being used.
I have my original in the attic, but can't imagine trying to put my Taco up there.
Too small of a hole to get into the attic.
I already have enough Porsche parts hanging on my garage walls.
At the end of the day, this is your car. Go the route that makes you happy. Why spend the resources on having something other people like if you don't like it? My Mk1 aero sans spatulas + GT2 replica wing.
Agreed!
Build what YOU like. (Beautiful car Sweet Victory)
Mine is a 996.2 with a 996.1 wing. (and a bunch of other interior & exterior mods)
I don't care if others don't like it, what matters is that I like it.
Who cares what some old bitty says.
The only person I'll listen to...sometimes...is my wife.
She talked me out of the "Porsche" decal down the side but helped me decide on the Taco wing.
Some mods she didn't like (black headlight outline on the covers) but just said, "it's your car, do what you want."
Thanks. That is very good advice. I have had BMWs for 25 years and knew what i liked. Since this is my first Porsche, i am drifting a bit. This forum is incredibly valuable. BTW, your car is stunning
First, congratulations on your purchase
You will find there are more than a few of us that are pretty passionate about Aero cars, both 996.1 & 996.2
There are several different looks in our 996 forum. Some stock and some with modifications. Some street, some track and everything in between.
You will grow to really like the help and advise you get from all, sometimes whether you ask for it or not, and some pretty good banter.
There are also some pretty good Porsche Tech/Mechanics that have an incredible amount of knowledge.
All good folks here
By no means is it "my" look! The wheels are CCW C14's, which are a monoblock forged wheel. A true race spec wheel; not a cheaper "rotary forged" wheel. They will compliment your boy racer 911.
I believe the C14's were discontinued, but hey now have the TS12 which is very very similar. The surface has been shot peened for surface hardening, and have their "clear bright" finish.
This is exactly what I did as well. Had to completely remove the "auto spoiler" and all of the related pieces in order to install the fixed spoiler (mine's a cab, so no Taco), so I bought another engine lid, color matching, and modified that one, keeping the original intact. Like someone said, four bolts and one plug and it's off.
Hello TS. I hope i am not bothering you but i keep coming back to the photo of your sweet ride. I think i mentioned how much i liked your wheel colour in this shade of grey. I am thinking about using the winter to have my sport wheels powder coated in black. I was just wondering if you had any advice for me on this. First time owner and i dont want to wreck the wheels or the look. Thanks
My OZ wheels are gloss black.
Although these came to me gloss black, I have experience in having wheels powder coated locally.
The place I've used for a couple of sets of wheels, I have delivered the wheels and tires to them.
In one case they replaced all of my tires for me afterwards, in the other they just remounted the tires I already had.
I also chose gloss black, because I assumed matte black would just look like a wheel covered in brake dust.
Also I believe gloss is easier to clean.
I recommend Akebono brake pads for any wheels for the street.
Less brake dust makes keeping wheels clean easier.
Ceramic coating(which I don't have yet on my current wheels) is a good idea for keeping clean.
Here's a close up of the OZ wheels:
Here is is dirty, but with the Big Brake Kit installed:
I think I will leave these as they are and slowly look for black wheels o could swap out from time to time. And thanks for the tip on the brake pads. Mine have less than 2k on them but next time for sure.
hi there. I am still trying to decide what to do. If i keep the aerokit front bumper but use the standard rear lid with speed spoiler will that impact the performance of the car? Some say you should not use this front bumper without the wing because it will lead to excessive overstearing. But i doubt i will ever track this car and it will likely be used just for fun in the summer. I would value your opinion on this issue

I cant tell any real difference even at 120mph. But Im not crushing at that speed for more than 30 seconds at a time....
love this angle/look. The Targa version of the 4S shot.😎
Ha! was bidding on the car on Bring a trailer good buy! Was bidding on 2 996 at the same time... Getting nervous I would end up with 2....I was fine with 2 Just might get some static from the wife. Ended up a 1999 with 996.2 aero.
Have a non aero front bumper if you need one...
Hey Everyone, I could use some help.
I have a 996 2004, my aero kit MK1 wing broke off. The previous owner used some kind of putty or bondo to hold the wing on instead of fixing it properly. The wing does not look damaged, the brackets on each side of the wing need to be replaced as they got corroded, and then covered in bondo. The side brackets seem ok, but I'm not sure if the bolts will survive. The flathead Allen wrench screws are stripped as well. Anyone know where I can get the proper brackets?
I have the skills, access to machining centers, Drawing software, finishing and paint booth to properly repair/replace those parts. if you dont, I suggest you find a local shop and be ready to spend $1k + to have it repaired properly. I think its worth it for those 🌮 though.
You could check with Suncoast Porsche and see if the have those parts, but Im guessing they wont.
good luck.
