Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know there is a lot of heated debate about thermostats, oil weight, oil brand, etc... What about actual numbers for oil temp for street use? I don't see a lot of discussion in my research about the numbers. What is acceptable? What is too hot? What is too cold? My cooling system is all stock on my 99 and my temps tend to hover between 220 and 240 depending on ambient temps and driving conditions. I generally drive with the AC on. These numbers don't seem to vary too much from ambient temps in the 60s or up to 90s. Mobil 1 0w40 on board. id love to hear some thoughts from veterans. I have the digital oil temp gauge from Skip (Porschetech3)

POST 2Original post

Cold is anything below 180. Normal is about 230. Too hot would be about 280.

Those numbers seem a bit hot on a 60 degree day of normal street driving. Id consider cleaning your radiators. Normal street driving should be about 200 to 220 imo
