Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It seems that the lower console on my new to me '99 is looking pretty sad. Cassette drawers? Really? And the "thing" under it (digital signal processor?) doesn't appear to be hooked up. If my understanding of it from my searching the forum is correct it doesn't play well with anything other than the standard factory radio? There's a Alpine radio above it and a Kenwood amp in the frunk so the DSP is just added weight? What might I expect to find behind the DSP faceplate? Will it just have some sort of multi-pin connector plugging into the harness so it's easily unplugged and removed? Given that I don't need either of those items perhaps a console delete is the best move to clean up the area. The delete kit is not much more costly than getting two of the plug in cubby trays for the lower console. Thanks for any guidance.

POST 2Original post

Console delete gave me the more classic and streamlined look I wanted.

POST 3Original post

Time for a a PCCM plus update, and resprayed center and lower console.

The DSP unit was a nice sound option for pre-MOST 996 owners. Basically, just a dumbed-down EQ with analog IO. What you'll probably see behind it is what's left of the wire harness plugged into it. The DSP unit connected inline between the head unit (e.g. CDR-220) and the DSP amplifier - most likely a HAES or Nokia M680. This was an expensive upgrade over the base setups in the 99 model that powered the speakers directly from the head unit.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
