Suggestion

I also like to disconnect the vacuum hose and test out the diaphragm by pushing the plunger all the way down and covering up the vacuum nipple with your finger and see if it holds.

Thanks very much for this posts - so I've had a look and it seems that the tube going to the Mufflers are disconnected - will this mean my system is constantly on "loud"?

I've tried all ways of finding a photo of where these things are as my psm light engages when you press switch but seems to be loud all the time - I suspect a previous owner has used a nod to get it this way which to be honest I'm very happy about but how could I check??

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, I have the dash button controlled performance exhaust system on my 04 C2 and would like to know if there is any documentation or recommendations for regular/periodic maintenance to be done on it? Thanks, Ralph

POST 2Original post

Clean and lube the actuator arm and plate pivot points on a regular basis, especially if your car see's any rain/snow. You can manually remove the plunger back and forth after you lube it to keep it free. Also check the vacuum lines for any tears/rips.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Excellent thanks alpine, any particular lube/spray? Ralph

POST 4Original post

Any lube that can withstand heat and not burn off or fling off. I've generally just used oil in the past and haven't had any issues. I also like to disconnect the vacuum hose and test out the diaphragm by pushing the plunger all the way down and covering up the vacuum nipple with your finger and see if it holds. If it doesn't then you're diaphragm is mostly likely damaged/torn and will need replacing(the whole actuator).

POST 5Original post

You'll know if something goes bad as the system defaults to open (loud) status if the mechanism doesn't work. I went ahead and removed all of mine when I changed over to my new catalytic converter x-pipe. So now I'm loud all of the time. Have all of the lines and actuator assembly in some plastic bags in the garage.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's great, thanks to all. Ralph

POST 7Original post

Did your car come with the "Extra shinny" option? What a beauty!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that's funny and thank you Ahsai. I'm a serious photo hobbyist and pretty strong user of Photoshop and Lightroom so that helps enhance my shots... Ralph

POST 9Original post

Many thanks J Lovely car btw

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

found this THREAD with pics so you can get an idea of where it's located and how it works. Hope this helps. I'm going to take mine to my mechanic so we can get it up on a lift to have a close look. Mine does work as it should I just want to make sure it keeps doing that. I like having a louder and a quiter setting available at my fingertips...

Since your light is still functional, 2 easy and obvious places to check is the wire to the grey vacuum solenoid to the right of the throttle body iirc. Make sure that's connected. Second would be the actual vacuum lines attaching at the actuators attached to the mufflers themselves. Check to make sure they aren't disconnected and capped off in any way. You can get on your knees and peek up under each side of the bumper to check.

POST 12Original post

Thanks very much for this posts - so I've had a look and it seems that the tube going to the Mufflers are disconnected - will this mean my system is constantly on "loud"? Many thanks again Jamie

Yes default with nothing attached or no vacuum will always be in the loud mode.

POST 14Original post
