Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, I do a lot of DE's and the wear is not great compared to other brands, so i guess that's not a legit knock on the Sports. They are a good street tire but damn pricey.
Believe it or not, the best tire I had for street and track were the Falkens. Exceptional in the wet and lasted forever. Good price point too.
I guess it all comes down to intended use.
I do canyon runs and the PSS are great but I don't track my car. My car came with Generals and they sucked ***.
BTW, I know what DE is but for the life of me I have no idea what the acronym stands for.
Really? I thought PSS were good on track and street. I'm planning on doing a lot of DE events next year and was gonna buy them in couple of weeks. You think I should reconsider?
I have run sumo 195 and 185... currently ps2 and love. Not sure if i will be willing to pay the ps2 price. Thinking about pss but not sure about the 195 35. I hated the sumo 185 35.
They are good track tires but they wear way too quick for the buy in price IMO. If I used them exclusively on the street I would have no issues with them. They seem to be the preferred tire at my Porsche dealer and that's why they are on the car now. I will either head back to Falkens or go with dedicated R comps when this set is gone.
I had Michelin PSS on my E90 335i. They lasted WAY longer than any other max performance summer tire I had on that car and they remained silent the entire time. However, the rears lost quite a bit of grip as they aged (lots of traction control intervention on heavy throttle). That may not be as big of a problem w/ the 911's rear weight bias.
same experience here - run them on my M5, and they last a lot longer than the PS2 with similar levels of grip wet and dry on the street. I have not been on the track with them, however - so can't comment. Personally I think they are the best performance street tire for the $ going these days.
Chris996, I don't see how you could possibly be running 185 and 195 tire widths. That isn't much wider than the compact spare. Are we missing your question or something?
I've had them on multiple Porsches and my C63. I think the Potenza S04 is a better tire that will last longer and for nearly half the price. The PSS on my C63 are really greasy, even on very light throttle they will start to slip and trigger the traction control.
I just got my 996 recently. It came with a brand new set of NITTO INVO tires on it. The fronts are 225/40 ZR18 92W and the rears are NITTO INVO 265/35 ZR18 97W. They seem great but I have nothing to compare them with. Does anybody have any experience with these?
I think the super sports are the best looking tire on the market. Some people could care less but to me tires are as important (if not more important) than the wheels they're on as far as ascetics. They are pretty inexpensive and FANTASTIC on the street. I've done 2 track days on them and think they're a good track tire. With good alignment I've had great wear and they are consistent and predictable but i think they're a couple seconds off pace from the faster street tires. I'll know for sure when I move to RS3s.
Michelin either PS2 Or PSS are awesome tires.. I've bought a bunch of different tires on my 996 over the years and can say the 996 will handle and feel very differently with different rubber.. Also not all tires will actually sized exactly the same way, for example the sumitomas are made narrower and shorter than the michelin.
If you're looking for a great street tire that's great in the rain and quiet than the best is Michelin. I have owned Pirelli, Continental, Sumi, Bridgestone, and Michelin..
Best value, and honest track performance goes to Sumi.. Loud and sloppy in the wet..
Best tire overall goes to the PSS or PS2..
I've also had a few sets if Pilot sport cup tires, which were my first track tires, and they were amazing and predictable with easily 50 heat cycles.. Not cheap but great match for the 996..
I know have been running Nitto nt01 on y gt3 which are incredible.
When you start to look at tracking street tires, depending on how often and how good or advanced you are.. You will likely want to go with dedicated track tires as the street tires will wear very quickly, especially if you get a track alignment on your car..
The 996 is the most amazing track car, I had seven exciting years on the track with my 996, and yes I spent tons of money on all kinds of upgrades over the years..
Good luck and hope this helps..
PSS are awesome street tires. If you need stickier than that, you have to go to a "not really street" tire that is 200 TW or less like the BFG Rival, or to a DOT R-Comp like the BFG R1 or the Hoosiers.
They aren't really much slower than the dedicated autocross "street" tires, and they are quiet and comfortable to ride on.
Why on earth would you get 185 or 195 widths? That is crazy! You have 8" width front wheels, correct? Get a 225 width at least. I have PSS on my 40th; with 8" and 10" wide wheels I'm running 245 and 285 widths and it's great. It really dials out the understeer.
