Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I did the mod before leaving EBS and it worked like a charm!!

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm finally on my way out to EBS in Reno to pick up my rebuilt '02 C4!!! I was reading this very old thread about a mod to remove the speed inhibition on operating the convertible top (keeping the parking brake requirement) and I'm thinking about doing it: First post: How to raise the cab top while moving - 996 Anyone here done it? Any negative side effects (assuming you're not dumb enough to use it above 5 or maybe 10mph)? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

if you have a MKII, you should be able to raise or lower the top at speeds below 30 mph. I have a 04 and the kid 02 that do it, its also in the manual. MKI won't without a aftermarket module that allows it

POST 4Original post

I've got a 2000 C4 Cab and I really don't understand the need/desire to be able to open the top while moving. Even if I could, I wouldn't. Just asking for trouble to do so IMO. Just stop/park the d*mn thing and open or close the top. What's the problem w/doing that?

POST 5Original post

What I’d like is a one touch up/down, rather than holding the button the whole time.

From reading the RennTech thread that particular programming wasn't introduced until the 03 model year (which matches with my recollection of when I tried it under 5mph back before the engine blew).

Ever been in a crawling rush hour traffic jam through a construction zone with no shoulders and it starts to rain? Happens all the time in the DC area. Sometimes stopping for 30+ seconds simply isn't feasible.

That's exactly what happened to me and is why I did the mod. There is no downside. You still have to pull up the parking brake one click to activate the top.

POST 9Original post

Did the mod many years ago on my 99 cab. No issues. I can pull the parking brake up one click, and open or close the top when rolling down my driveway, in a parking lot, or in stop-and-go traffic. Recommended.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone! I did the mod before leaving EBS and it worked like a charm!! At the north end of Lake Tahoe Fun roads!

That wouldn't work, no way to do maintenance then.

POST 12Original post

Nice! My 01 did not have it. When I got my 03 I loved having it. She puts up the top 1/2 block from the driveway every time while I'm driving. I have also put it down at a red light and the light changes so I can drive to finish and not hold anyone up behind me.

There is a plug-in aftermarket device that will do that called SmartTop. I don't have it but people who do seem to like it.

$300 while it takes only 10 minutes to do the DIY mod...

POST 15Original post

While I agree that it's not worth $300 to me, it's a different thing. The SmartTop gives you one-touch operation, which some people want.

POST 16Original post

The Smart Top one allows you stop it by pressing the button again - just like some one-touch windows.
