Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Is there much difference in running costs for the C4S?
Leading evidence: 'Run costs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run costs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

As far as running costs are concerned, it all depends on the car you own but they are all OLD cars and require more repairs/maintenance than later models and my guess is that any difference in costs between a C2/C4 or C4S would just be a wash.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Would like opinions on the differences in driving, reliability, and value for the C4S compared to the C2 and C4 models. Im seeing C4Ss for high 20s low 30s and well-sorted C2s/C4s for around $25k.
which way would folks go? Is there much difference in running costs for the C4S? Im a fan of their looks compared to the base model but hoping to get some more input on these factors.
Thanks
The only thing I can think of on a C4S that is not on a C2, (that could break,) is the Front Differential. The tail lights on the 4S have a different design and can crack and fail - there's a cheap aftermarket "light saver" for this problem. That's all I can think of...
You can buy a C2/4 996 for a lot less than a C4S. I got my 2000 C4 Cab for just $15k and the most I've seen most C2/C4 996's go for is $20k. About $10-15k less than what you are quoting for a C4S. That's a pretty high premium for a fat rear end/bigger rear wheels & tires and just 20 more HP.
For that kind of extra $, you should be shopping for a 996TT which are still available for less than $40k if you shop around and that'll give you that fat rear end/bigger rear wheels & tires and 120HP (before you tune it w/a Cobb Accessport). That's extra $ much better spent IMO.

Don't forget on the C4 front drive shaft, front drive disc, front differential, front drive shafts with associated cv joints. So there is more exposure to additional costs. Of course some people pull all that off and have the looks without the possible additional maintenance costs.
As indicated the cv boots can tear on the front drive shafts. Not a huge expense and considered wear and tear. Youre looking at very similar running costs imo.
