IMHO, don't go with cloned Duraflex GT3 type bumper because that company uses reserve engineering to create the mold.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can easily tell that its there to channel air to the radiators. How important is it if you are installing a bumper with larger openings and reinforce the entire back of the bumper with the black aluminum mesh? I had a small collision and I am not going to reinstall the factory bumper. I havent decided completely which one I am going to use but likely the one with the openings at the bottom of the hood. So the question I am asking is it imperative that I locate and install that plastic? The wheel well plastic is repairable so I am putting that back. I wouldnt think of not having that in place. I dont know whos car this is but Im going to end up with a similar car when Im done. This car is beautiful.

POST 2Original post

R u reffrring to the rubber boot behind the bumper? If so its important to have all of that in there. Cooling is already an issue with our cars, u dont want to make it worse. The other bits of plastic around the upper edges help hold the bumper in. The part #s r on those parts. I just got them used from a dismantller on ebay at a fraction of new.

I have the same feeling and was looking for confirmation. Same idea with eBay. I know that LA Dismantler is decent.

Definitely want to be careful with aftermarket bumpers on these cars IMHO. I've gone down this road before and swapped out my front bumper. The side air ducts on the base Carreras are designed to fit tightly to the base factory bumpers. The bumper inlets work on a vacuum principal in order to meet certain CFM specs for them to work at optimum potential. Changing out the bumper and adding inlet grilles could negatively affect engine temperature. It happened to me. Temps ran much higher. If you want a better bumper, go with the factory GT3 front bumper. It's designed to swap out on base Carreras with no loss in airflow.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

More good info. I have one part number so far for the main cover over the radiator. I will be putting all of them back. The GT3 is exactly what I want for a bumper. Is it really important that it is factory? They are pretty pricey. Is there a quality aftermarket that is not crap? I know I am going to need to pay but I want to be careful as this is coming from my pocket as do many things. There is no escaping the reality of it. If I need to put the factory one back because I cannot get the gt3. I will add a lip to improve aesthetics. If anyone has one or sees one I would be profoundly great full.

The aftermarket GT3-like add-on lip spoiler is the cheaper and easiest route. IMHO, don't go with cloned Duraflex GT3 type bumper because that company uses reserve engineering to create the mold. That means they won't fit perfectly. I've seen images of their GT3-like bumper on the 996 and it looked horrible around the edges. Doesn't fit snug nor align properly with the car. Some of the aftermarket ABS bumpers look pretty cool, but I'd avoid Duraflex.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yea for sure. Duraflex is tempting but as you said no good. Ill pay for a quality aftermarket.Im going to seek either a used oem or a used quality aftermarket long and hard before I go with just a lip because its really not what I want but its what I might have to settle for.
