Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone know the shift speed between gears on the triptronic. I was reading about BMW's new M3 sport automatic transmission shifting at .08 seconds. I have an Acura TL which takes about .5 seconds (or so it seems) to change gears after you toggle the selector. Where does the triptronic fit in.

POST 2Original post

I don't know the exact speed but it is definitely a lot slower than the BMW SMG or Ferrari F1 systems - the important difference deing that the Tip is auto and not an auto-shift manual. I moved from a F355 F1 GTS to a 996 Tip cab and the shifting difference is considerable. It's slow and also annoyingly shifts up too early. (I want a crappy gas consumption mode!!! :mad I find myself overriding the system in manual mode on lots of occasions. The SMGII system for the new BMW M3 looks like being truely excellent - paddles too!

POST 3Original post

I had a E36 M3 evolution smg, then a E46 M3 SMGII then the 996 tiptronic. I dont think that there is such a noticeable difference between the SMGII and the 996 tiptronic in manual mode
