I just did this, checked into selling because of Cuda's last wknd adventure really got to me.

You put a clean 42K mile C4S on rennlist for anything less than $30K and I bet it sells almost instantly.

Co-workers who did the baby thing told me 8lbs of baby equals about a thousand pounds of baby stuff: stroller, diapers, wipes, formula, water bottles (for Mom), spare changes of clothes (for baby and Mom), and so on.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello Rennlisters:
The time has come for me to part with my 996. I am keeping the 911 - but I have a baby on the way and wife needs a vehicle upgrade. Short term, that means losing the C4S cab. Long term - it means I will be TT Cab shopping sometime in mid 2015.
Any thoughts on pricing?

wait - you are selling a 996 C4S now and in 6 months plan to buy a 996 TT ?
All because you need to get a new car for your wife?
Something doesn't add up here. Won't the 996 TT cost you more than just keeping the C4S, regardless of what you end up doing for the wife's car?
Ha - ya ok - I can see how that might be confusing. We have 4 cars for two people right now and none of them are great for babies. I am going to sell two of them - the 996 being one - and get my wife squared away and then once things settle down with the babies arrival - I will start looking around for the right TT. I work for myself - so the TT is a nice incentive for me to get out and earn some extra $$$ and maybe even be able to stretch for a 997 TT Cab.
None of that really matters though - the point now - is I am going to sell the 996.
IMHO,
$31K = fairly quick sale,
$38K = top dollar if you stumble upon the perfect buyer.
How much of that $7K middle ground you want depends on your tolerance for craigslist nut-jobs and/or waiting until Spring.
It does sound like a nice car...
Is this your first baby?
Congratulations, you need either an SUV or a large size sedan, every time you go out think about space for stroller, car seat, diaper bag and off course groceries but well that's another thread.
I did a national search for you

this will give you an idea how is the market out there if it was my car and I'm not in a rush to sell it I will go from
$43000 to 38000 minimum, considering your car has 4 owners, 59000 miles, all books and records, no accidents and interior and exterior are in good not perfect condition with a clean top.
Good luck!!
Thank you! Yes it is our first. I am going to keep my 84 for him to learn to drive on when he is old enough
Everyone needs to start off on a car without all the computer assists.
Ya we are going with small SUV - my wife is tiny - we will probably pick up a Mercedes GLK off lease - there are a ton of them out here that are 3 years old with less then 30k miles on them and they have a really low loading deck and power tailgates for her.
Given what I paid for the C4S - if I get 35-36k out of it - I am happy.
I just did this, checked into selling because of Cuda's last wknd adventure really got to me. It hit to close to home. I went to two separate Indy guys in the car biz for years. I have a 2003 4CS, lots of stuff w maint records, 42k on the clock. Their numbers were 16k plus 13k back for milage. 29k total and they offered me 22k cash and 25ish to trade for whatever. Of course they are robber barrens and I would have expected no less. I know there's a little more room. I've calmed down and am not selling, but in southern CA the number for cash 2moro is between 22 - 24k. A good deal to someone is just shy of 30k. This is what I found in N county San Diego, thurs of last week-
get my wife squared away and then once things settle down with the babies arrival
This has to be your first baby. Heck I have no children and know the above is just wishful thinking on your part.
Co-workers who did the baby thing told me 8lbs of baby equals about a thousand pounds of baby stuff: stroller, diapers, wipes, formula, water bottles (for Mom), spare changes of clothes (for baby and Mom), and so on. You'll need two SUVs: One to carry the baby and one to follow behind with the all the baby tackle.
Turbo indeed. Maybe a Turbo Cayenne.
I would guess at mid $30s at minimum based on your description.
This is not a direct comparison but a few months ago I had the local dealer take a look at my 2004 C2 with 84k miles for some pricing advice. I am sure many will say they are crazy and overly optimistic, but I'll share what the sales manager told me.
First his caveat - "for anyone who knows and understands the 996 and is looking for a solid example".
2nd owner - 9 out of 10 in and out. Optioned with PSE, PSM, heated power memory seats, Bose, Bi-Xenons, Aero skirts, SSK, 18" OEM wheels with new N spec tires, LN IMSB, new WP, plugs, coil packs, exceptionally maintained and all service records. All OEM, unmolested, no mods.
$29k if willing to wait up to a few months for an appreciative buyer. $26k for a 30 day sale. $24k if I feel like giving it away and want to sell it in a week. (Not selling just yet so it's all moot)
Also, 3 years ago I paid $41k private party for a 2004 C4S with 23k on the clock optioned beyond the C2. But that's just me as a buyer.
Good luck with the sale and enjoy the baby. You'll soon find that Porsches are much less expensive than children but not nearly as precious.
this thread is a very good practical pricing guide for these cars in real life various different situations. I'm saving it my files to look at 5 years from now(if I am lucky enough) and see just how it moves, up or down. I'm betting up-
lingpoen - you were looking at wholesale prices - cash to a dealer - not private party. I got a cash offer from a local dealer at 26k for mine. Obviously not going to take it - I don't need to sell it that fast.
Kromdom - that is exactly what I am looking at 2012 GLK 4matic. I almost got one last weekend for 32k on the clock - loaded - CPO - for 28k but I hesitated a day and it sold. I will keep shopping
silotwo - I bought my C4S Cab with 39k on the clock 2.5 years ago - for just under 40k.
Long story short - I am going to list it at 37k and take the first offer over 35k that I get. If I can't get that much for it - I will probably just hang on to it until the summer.
I really appreciate all the advice!
