I don't really run into that situation very often.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Every time I drive it, I get at least one person giving me thumbs up if not multiple people. I've had something like 4 cars race me so far.....last night on the tollway I had a guy in an 07 Audi S6 (Lambo V10 engine) race me, sure, why not?
The result was is was basically a dead even pull from about 65 and on. I dropped it down to third gear to start. It was fun.
I have an 07 S8 with the same engine, and I can say it is really pretty quick on the highway (actually pretty quick all around), so it's good to know that the 996 matches it. If there were any twisties, the 996 would walk it.
Bring it on bitches!
I don't really run into that situation very often. It does occasionally happen, but it tends to be the Subaru WRX crowd.
The thing that happens to me more frequently is passive/aggressive behavior on the freeway. For example, I'll be cruising at 70mph in a 65mph zone in the middle lane. I'll come up behind a car that is going 55mph or maybe 60mph. I pull into the left lane to pass them, and they accelerate to match my speed as I pass, sometimes up to 80mph or more. Eventually they slow back down to their original speed and I ease into the middle lane in front of them. I'm not sure why people do this, but it happens much more frequently when I'm driving the 911 as opposed to my wife's Audi.
People just have a tendency to match the speed of the car next to them, but there will always be the a-typical haters who are just being dicks. I get the thumbs up fairly often as well, and yes it's the Subaru/Evo crowd that likes to tangle. That 2.0l doesn't have anything on the top end. Trust me, I owned a 03 Evo modified to the hilt.
As hard as it is sometimes, I try to be a less aggressive driver when I am in my P-cars as compared to my pickup. It is difficult sometimes because the car is so capable that it is easy to drive in a manner, such as passing and moving through traffic, that would seem aggressive to some people.
I really don't care to be a show-off and negatively affect the public's perception of Porsche owners.
Doing some quick accelerator jabbing next to someone in an Audi IS something I might do if there was no other traffic around because that kind of interaction usually involves two responsible adults, neither of whom will let it get out of hand.
My car is quiet until you get on it since I have the k&n CAI. But the sound change at 5200rpm is mind blowing and I bet the minivan driving 55mph in the left lanes likes it when his paint gets blown off!
I like the looks and thumbs up, it's nice to see other people that feel the same way I do and not being haters.
I have the K&N CAI, and the sound is just over the top. It appears I have the stock exhaust. Wonder what it would sound like with stock intake.....not that I'm changing anything.
I don't get people trying to race me but they always want to her me plant it because of the exhaust system I have on it.
My old car was a MONSTER and looked like it came out of a fast & furious movie and none ever tried to race me either :/
I think some guys figure that if you have a P-car, you are probably willing to run it. The flip side is the Corvette owner, who you almost never get to race
I have had a Saturn coupe try to run from my Cayenne S on Red Mtn Pass, that was fun, suprised the crap out of that guy. Yesterday on a 996 test drive... 3-2-1 long on ramp, I am on the outside, guy next to me in an Altima jumps when the light changes, I make the corner and smoke him up the ramp then settle in to 5-10 over. Of course he has to come flying by on the left, unfamiliar with the area, we let him go. Funny stuff though!
I had one years ago, the butt hurt older couple in the Dodge Dakota. I passed them on a deserted desert highway doing ~120 in the 928. They called the cops. I always slow for the towns, they zapped me, hhhmmm not speeding. Between the next towns I have to ramp it up again because the truck sped through town and caught up!, same thing happens 30 miles later in the next town. Finally after being zapped by half a dozen cops the county stops me a few miles from home. Lets me go because "we never caught you speeding" I told him how those folks were right behind me through three towns, so who was driving dangerously again?
Right on, although not specific to when driving the 996, a lot of drivers being occupied with mobile devices, use your speed as a guage of their own, even worse at a red light in multi lane road, light turns green and none of the first cars are moving, ( drivers looking down and relying on side vision )
But in the 996 what happen often when in left lane, some suv driver pulls up very close, and when I yield the lane, he or she backs off and not pass.
I, too, have a 2007 S8 and find the acceleration profile similar to the 996. Unreal combination of cars! Your aero package probably attracts more hotheads than my MY2000 cab, but every once in a while ...
when the UPS guy rev'd his engine and passed me, I gave up. No one pulls out in front of me or cuts me off in the F150, or the Harley for that matter. But this car, everyone speeds up or wants to race, or just looks mean. Maybe I drive it to slow. My only car that was worse was the mini-cooper. People would look right at your then pull out!!!
I have to watch like a hawk...cops around here doing traffic enforcement will let 2-3 SUV's, pickups or minivans go speeding by and nail the Porsche. I think they figure if you drive a car like that you can afford the ticket and won't go complaining to city hall. I never take the bait on a traffic light drag race. I like my car too much for that.
Add speed yellow to that combination and you have even more douche bags in beat up civics with fart cans revving their engine along with a thumbs up LOL
When I get one of those types next to me at a light I'll rev the engine like I'm going to race and then pull away slow like a dump truck....
They go tearing off and get nothing for it.
