Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had my 2001 996 to the shop for CEL due to Oil Pressure Reg prob. After a few days the CEL appeared again. I was going to bring it in this week but on Sat started the car and....no CEL! Drove it for approx. 20 miles and still "OK" Just wondering if anyone else has had this intermittent problem. Hoping my ECU is not "failing" for lack of a better explanation. Any input greatly appreciated.....

POST 2Original post

The check engine light due to oil pressure problem? Or you meant oil pressure warning light? That doesn't sound too good. What exact codes (if any) were read?

POST 3Original post

Like Ahsai said...get the codes when the CEL comes on, or stored codes. You need to know what they are.

POST 4Original post

Can you list the code(s) associated with the light?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just spoke to my mechanic. He told me to bring the car in as there indeed may be stored error codes that may explain the CEL situation. Ahsai, the last problem I encountered resulted in replacement of my oil pressure sensor. Thanks to all for your replies....

POST 6Original post

How did we ever survive without all these warning lights? How did car mechanics ever survive without all these sending unit failures? Have we all become slaves to the idiot lights? Check your oil, check your coolant, check your brake fluid, drive your cars.

POST 7Original post

A steady CEL light most often means an emissions control issue. As others have said, read the codes and see whats up. A blinking light means more urgency.

POST 8Original post

to my knowledge the oil pressure gauge signal and low oil pressure switch go only to the instrument cluster. i haven't seen any dme fault codes for oil pressure. my guess is the intermittent cel is something else.
