Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I cleaned the throttle body and that seemed to get it back to normal.

Suggestion · Original poster
I'll look into cleaning the throttle body as well as the e-gas cal.

Only happened when car was warm, specifically after filling with fuel.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Greetings all,
I've had my '03 C4S for almost 2 years, and have put roughly 26k miles on it (I flog the heck out of her) as the car had an engine rebuild just before I bought it. I've had virtually 0 mechanical issues with the car thus far, but one thing has sprung up in the past month or so. Maybe 2 out of 10 times when I start the car (especially if it's very hot outside) the engine will turn over, but it will be a weak start up and the car will stall out. Once I start her again she'll turn over no problem, but I'm trying to figure out what the issue could be. I replaced ignition coils and spark plugs in February so I know that's not the issue. Is this a common problem? And more importantly, how much am I gonna have to shell out to get it taken care of? Thanks all.
That's a pretty good description of what mine started doing once it got hot here. I cleaned the throttle body and that seemed to get it back to normal.
I had some instances of soft cranking and the car studdering to a start and stalling.
Starter was on the way out, replaced and all good.

Since your car is an 03, first try an e-gas calibration. Turn key to ON (not start), wait for 60 seconds then turn key to OFF. Do not touch the accelerator pedal during this cycle. Then start as normal and see what happens.
I'll look into cleaning the throttle body as well as the e-gas cal. If it still happens then I'll have to look to get the starter replaced. I appreciate the responses!
