I know there's a good shop called Dynamic Auto in Huntley that I've used for my Mercs in the past.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good day fellow car lovers! I finally was able to fulfill my lifelong dream of owning a 911! I just bought a 99 911 Carrera in Arena red and am beyond stoked waiting for its arrival. Of course, I have already started looking at mods and what is the best bang for the buck. Well, the first video I came across was the Fister/Gundo exhaust mod and I must have it! The sound difference is amazing. My question is, can literally any exhaust shop do this mod or do any fellow IL owners know of a local shop they would recommend for this? Are there any other mods (aside from a CAI) that I should look into? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

POST 2Original post

Where in Illinois are you? There's a Chicago based group of 996 owners that may be able to steer you in the right direction. Look up 996revival on facebook and instagram. They also have local meetups. Looks good!

POST 3Original post

Any exhaust shop can do this. I'd expect about $200.00

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm in Marengo, IL. I'll call around done local exhaust shops and see if any can do this. I know there's a good shop called Dynamic Auto in Huntley that I've used for my Mercs in the past.

POST 5Original post

Just go muffler delete it’s amazing and lightens up the rear very little but the sound is intoxicating Mike

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Muffler delete is a bit extreme for my needs, but I did check out the Afterhours sport exhaust. I figured the gundo hack would be cheaper and provide about the same results from what I've read.

POST 7Original post

I like my Fister modded mufflers. Nice increase in sound without being obnoxious (to each their own no right or wrong).

POST 8Original post

Here is what I did: removed the mufflers and took them to the most basic muffler shop in town. Showed them a picture of the mod. Went back couple hours later and they were done. They used 1.5 inch pipe. Cost was $100.

I did the same thing too. Only thing to consider is, make sure they can do stainless steel. Not everyone has the materials and can weld SS.

POST 10Original post

I have a friend in Wheaton who bought a set of OEM mufflers from a 996.1 and sent them to Fister for the mod. He never put them on his car, he might want to sell them, but it wouldn't be $200, probably more like $600. If you are interested let me know and I'll contact him.

Buy these! Having Fister modify the mufflers is the way to go for stainless steel, TIG welded and 1.75 diameter cross pipe which sounds much better than muffler shop 1.5 pipe. Fisters price is quite reasonable for the service they provide. You may also want new hardware which Fister sells for $50.
