Spacers to set wheels out to fender, looks silly right now.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Few things I would like to do.. 1. Be able to lower the roof without stopping and pulling up parking brake. 2. Spacers to set wheels out to fender, looks silly right now. 3. Lowering springs or coil overs? I want handling/and comfort. Not track for duty.. I have a race car already 4. Add Led lighting to the front that looks OEM-ish 5. Paddle shift upgrade for tiptronic? Ive seen a few topics on this.. Which is best? 6. I have side and rear aero, Need a nice front lip spoiler (GT3'ish.) Any leads for me where to look? Thanks for the help

1. Smart Top 2. Many companies make spacers. You can go with OE spacers or aftermarket. Make sure they are hub centric. 3. I think you will prefer coil overs for your application, but I wouldn't do either one if you already have a race car. 4. You won't find anything that looks OEM-ish; the 996 never had OEM LED lights. 5. Paddle shifters for tiptronic are possible, but I haven't seen it often. I know that there's a guy on www.6speedonline.com who did a nice conversion. 6. Lots of options on spoilers. Do some research and decide which one you like. Have fun with the process!

POST 3Original post

I'd probably do the spacer task first if it were my car.

POST 4Original post

I did 15mm ECS spacers all around. http://www.ecstuning.com/Porsche-200...heels/Spacers/ They work great!

POST 5Original post

Wow! Nobody mentioned making your headlights look more round. Just wow!

Well you know OP wanted led DRL, so you know 997 LED taillights are a must too.

POST 9Original post

The 996 GT3 front lip doesn't quite fit the 996.1 front bumper, but it's close. There are some threads about affixing one and it looks really good.

That would be a 996.2 Cup Car lip to be exact. It's good if you want a very subtle look, otherwise I'd go with something else IMO.

POST 11Original post

15mm in the rear with 19inch turbo wheels Boom!

POST 12Original post

With regards to #1, there is a hack that I did on my '99 Boxster that I found very effective, and it cost $0.00. Not sure if the procedure varies in any way for a 996. Here's a link related to the Boxster: http://986forum.com/forums/general-d...le-moving.html There is a relay in the fuse box that deals with lowering/raising the top. One of the tabs on the relay picks up a signal that the car is moving. If it senses the car is moving, then you cannot operate the top. By bending or removing this pin, the relay never gets a signal that the car is in motion. Once this has been done, you can operate the top simply by engaging the parking brake. The good news here is that you only need to pull the brake up one click. So, with this hack done, suppose you are driving in stop & go traffic and you want to lower/raise the top. You're not sure if you will actually be at a stop long enough to fully lower/raise the top without the asshat behind you getting pissed off and honking his horn at you. Well, you can just pull the brake up one click (this will not actually brake the car) and lower/raise your top while on the move. Obviously, don't do this above a certain speed. Once you have done the research and confirmed the location of the relay and the tab in question, this job takes less than five minutes and costs no money.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the top tip! Noticed you have a C4S Cerex so maybe 15mm in the rear would be too much for a narrow body?

POST 14Original post

I have 15mm ECS all around and they fit just right.

POST 16Original post

Tell me more about these spacers. Do they affect handling or alignment? Who sells them?

15mm-20mm all around will be fine with your wheels on a nb. POST 18Original post

OK, I was intrigued enough to bite the bullet and get 15 mm spacers all around. When I opened the box my first thought is they didn't look big enough to make much of a difference. But now that they're on the car, they look great! I love the more aggressive stance, and is my kind of visual mod. Looks great, but would take a good eye as to just what is different. Sorry, no pics yet!

POST 19Original post

If I were to start over, I would simply invest in coilovers and a thicker steering wheel.
