Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
However, I don't think enough people would know what you're going for to score any points to make the change worthwhile on looks alone, and there seem to be better ways to put a more fun exhaust system in one of these cars than what you're thinking of.
Leading evidence: 'Replace worthwhile' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). If it's just the center exhaust look/placement you're after, you can just use regular crossover cat bypass pipes which would give you enough room to run exhaust tips to the center from stock muffler locations.

Just picked up a 996.1 c2 and was wondering, would it look too boxsterish if I put a 996gt3 cup rear bumper on it and have the exhaust running through the center?

Also if you use gt3/cup muffler, you'll need to do extra fabrication for the second inlets.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If it floats your boat go ahead.
If people think it looks too much like boxster then that is their problem.
However, I don't think enough people would know what you're going for to score any points to make the change worthwhile on looks alone, and there seem to be better ways to put a more fun exhaust system in one of these cars than what you're thinking of.
I would assume you're going for the look of a 991 GT3...on a 996...but maybe I'm wrong.
I don't modify my cars for other people. With that in mind, I say if you like it then go for it and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. If you were worried about people confusing your car with a Boxster you probably shouldn't have bought a 996! lol
To the extent you're worried about what other people might think just keep in mind that the vast majority of people (other than Porsche cognoscenti) won't even know you moved the exhaust. Most people don't even know that the 986's exhaust was in the center of the bumper. Some people will know but, most importantly, you will. If it will make you smile then that's what matters most.
My $.02,

You're gonna have to either lose or relocate the cats. Also if you use gt3/cup muffler, you'll need to do extra fabrication for the second inlets.
If it's just the center exhaust look/placement you're after, you can just use regular crossover cat bypass pipes which would give you enough room to run exhaust tips to the center from stock muffler locations. This would also give you more clearance.
This is on my to-do list as well.
Nothing. I personally just don't like the 986 gens. 987.1-981 I actually do like them but would rather buy a cayman if I were to go that route just because cabrios don't float my boat
Can I be the second to ask Why? Cleaner look? Sorry don't understand are you upgrading the exhaust for sound? Performance? Stripping weight? Cat bypass? You want the Boxter look?
