Has anyone purchased these? I didn't even know Sachs made coilovers. They do look nice but are more expensive than the Ohlins. You Tube

Wow very interesting, I work at an OEM and love Sachs. Great products and R&D. Cant speak for these, but love to hear from someone who tried them!

POST 3Original post

Hard to imagine these are better than Ohlins. Look at the Ohlins pedigree. Not an owner or affiliated, but the racing/street reputation for Ohlins speaks for itself. Mark

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 16651185

I completely agree with you. I am also pleased that the 996 is getting some love with additional large suspension companies developing products. It is always good to have more choices.

POST 5Original post

If they have independent rebound and compression adjustment, they are a step above the Ohlins R&T...at least in tech. From the marketing, they seem to be a track focused suspension. I wonder what the spring rates are. With those helper springs, they are 1/2 way between the Bilstien PS10 and the KW V3.

POST 7Original post

sachs knows what theyre doing. they have racing pedigree and id rank them above ohlins in terms of them knowing what they are doing. theyve been in the game as long as ohlin has been.. if not longer. they are huge in the motorsport world and they stuff is definitely track oriented and most likely not recommended for daily driver use unless youre building a vehicle that will see little to no street use, id probably just pass on these and get ohlin's

Having FEALs on my car, I'd have to drive a car fitted with Ohlin's to see if the price increase is justified. I can't say I really need anything more than the FEALs for the street. Who knows, though... maybe the Ohlin's would blow me away, but right now I've got excellent handling and compliance with what I have.

POST 9Original post

I guess I'm going to be the guinea pig for these. I'm not doing Monterey Car Week this year because of Covid so I thought, "What could I spend the saved money on that's car related?" They're coming from Germany so I'll report back in 6-8 weeks.

I worked with Sachs years ago and they are top notch. I am looking forward to your experience. Please share!

Interesting new option for around $400 less than hlin R&T.

I REALLY like my Feal suspension too. Id really like to drive a car with hlins to see what the difference is!

The Ohlins R&T are $2790 vs Sachs @ 2900 W/O Socal's sweet life hack (totally gonna try that)... https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ohlins-p...All%20Products The Sachs or KWV3 are the only other street/track CO I would put on my car and with so little out there on a super high quality well recognized brand, excited to see a review @Socal, not sure if I missed it, but couple questions: 1. Any setup plans ? corner balancing or planned alignment specs 2. What tires are you running

I'm going to talk to Adam Gill who is considered the Porsche alignment/balance guru around these parts. I will do the initial install myself. Tires are Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Go to the Sachs web site (sachsperformance.com) $2300-2400 depending on rwd or awd. Ships in 1-2 days.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have the Ohlins coilovers and they are amazing. The ride is just what the car needed. The car handles very well and is very compliant. Dont know how these would compare but it would be interesting to find out. I don't know if the Sachs are a step above the Ohlins. The DFV valve in the Ohlins coilovers seams to be unique but im not an expert.

POST 18Original post

I guess I won't be reviewing these any time soon. Not sure why it took six days to find out they were unavailable.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 16836960

Did you try to order them directly from Sachs? They show them available for the the 2wd and awd sets. Hopefully they arent also hiding the truth about availability.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source posts: 16827322, 16837397

I tried to buy directly from Sachs before going to FCP. The shipping seemed impossibly cheap for Germany to California so I asked for clarification on that but never heard anything. I also asked for more information on the shipping process because the last time I ordered something high ticket from Germany it was a bit of a hassle. I ended up having to go to Delta Air Freight at the airport to pick up paperwork that I then had to take to U.S. Customs. I had to pay duty and some processing fees at Customs and then back to the airport to pick up the wheels and pay another fee. Without being able to get info from Sachs, I figured I would just go with FCP because it could very well end up being cheaper and way less hassle. I think it's unlikely that that wouldn't have any kits available to one of their best customers (FCP) but would have one available to sell to some random guy on the other side of the world.

POST 22Original post

Ive bought from Ruf in Germany and never had an issue. I did have a COD charge of $50 from UPS once, but thats not a big deal compared to the prices US sellers want for Ruf items.

POST 23Original post

Bought my CAE Shifter direct from GER, if I remember correctly DHL had it to the local pickup center in like 4 days, I was shocked.

POST 24Original post

How often do people end up needing the shocks rebuilt on Feal or Ohlins? I would go with the Ohlins but don’t want to have to rebuild shocks every two years. Anyone with long term experience here?

POST 25Original post

I've never had any problem with odds and ends but it seems like when the declared value reaches a certain threshold, Customs starts taking more of an interest.

POST 26Original post

Sachs coilover purchase attempt Part Deux I saw that FCP is doing a 10% off promo so just for the halibut, I sent them an email asking about availability since it's been over a month since my first try. This was the response. So with the new promo, it knocked the price down from $2,907.00 to $2,616.30, a savings of $290.70. Also, the shipping lead time went down from 5-6 weeks to 2-3 weeks. In spite of the email from FCP, I won't be a bit surprised if I get an email in the next seven days telling me they're still backordered.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 16915901

If they're actually "in stock" (in my world that means they're sitting in the warehouse...) why would it take 2-3 weeks to ship them? Just ridiculous... I smell BS... I'm calling BS... (but I wish you the nest of luck in getting them anyway...)

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 16916922

I know right?! I assume he means 'in stock' in Germany which of course means they are not in stock at FCP. It does seem strange that a company the size of FCP can't keep a kit or two on the shelf. I guess this is an item that unlike most of their stuff, isn't drop shipped from one of the big warehouses that most of the places like FCP use.

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 16916934

^^^ Yeah... makes more sense^^^ . That being said, saying that something sitting in Germany is "in stock" is just slightly misleading... I've been a little disillusioned with FCP lately - I ordered a master cylinder from them the other day (TRW) and then found it almost immediately for $50 less. In their defense, they were very responsive and cancelled and refunded (in full) my order (they should have offered to match the price though - would have saved both of us some hassle)...

POST 31Original post

I have a set of Sachs 2 way adjustable that came standard on the 996 cup car I picked up to part out. If the set being offered here is anywhere near the quality of the cup car pieces, you will not be disappointed.

I have Ohlins and love them but why does Sachs have back orders? Also you showcased the Sachs in the Video. What's your experience with them in comparison to other brands?

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 16921906

The Sachs coilovers are a top of the line motorsports quality coilover utilizing upside-down technology. Unfortunately Sachs has recently discontinued 841500118461 which is why we had some difficulty with orders recently. We will have the Ohlins Road and Track coilover kit for the 996 Carrera available soon.

POST 38Original post

It's kind of pointless to comment at this time but I did see a promotion at FCP about a year ago (?) for the Sachs coilover kit and purchased it at a pretty good discount. I just googled the kit and it is advertised at various places. I'm guessing it was their last one in actual stock. It was installed at Autotechnic in New Milford, Ct. There was a glitch in the install that could have been partially FCP's fault and even though that was debatable they were great and compensated me some funds. I mean really, where are you getting lifetime warranty on everything including fluids. Yes I buy all my oil there and return the used for credit. Anyway, Autotechnic did a great job installing the Sachs coilovers and adjusting them. I have not adjusted them since although it does not appear difficult. They're beautifully made. I did not have to purchase new strut mounts or anything else. The ride on back roads is stiffer than stock but acceptable to me and at a couple of Limerock track days they were amazing. The 996 is now lowered about an inch and a half. I don't have experience with other manufacturers kits but I have no hesitation recommending these if they actually continue to be available.

POST 39Original post

Quotes source post: 16828785

The interesting thing suspension for 911s is the variation in spring rates. On a motorcycle, spring rates are pretty well common yet cars are all over the place. Knowing ohlins started as a motorcycle suspension company makes me think they feel like there's probably an optimal spring rate regardless of whether it's a race car or a street car. The trick is making the car compliant "not harsh" by having some kind if compression valving that blows off with high speed shaft movement. Ohlins has addressed this and gave it some marketing term. I will definately be going with the Ohlins for this reason.

POST 40Original post

How do the Sachs compare to the Bilstein PSS10s? I currently have Bilstein PSS10s on my '03 4S. The freeway expansion joints I used to pass over on my stock suspension were surprisingly non-jarring and refreshingly nice compared to my previous cars. When I switched to the PSS10s I was back to the semi-jarring feeling over expansions joints and harshness at lower speeds compared to the stock setup.

POST 41Original post

Quotes source post: 17089310

those expansion joints cause a small but high speed movement

POST 42Original post

Quotes source post: 17089310

The Sachs coil over suspension is definitely stiffer than the stock factory one. The only car I can compare it to is my old 1975 BMW 2002 that has H&R sport springs and Bilstein sports. Its not much of a comparison but the Bilstein sports are a bit stiffer than the Bilstein HD and the cars have a similar ride. Yes, the Sachs ride is semi jarring over expansion joints. I could possibly adjust that out somewhat but its not uncomfortable to that extent to me. Or my wife although she notices it.

POST 43Original post

Quotes source posts: 17090563, 17093133

Thanks for the info. I kept hearing that the Sachs were more compliant but it doesn't appear to be that they are as compliant as the stock suspension as related to expansion joints and such. So I guess I'm not missing out compared to my PSS10s. I guess the only way to get as supple as stock is with slightly underdamped shocks and lighter springs.

POST 44Original post

Quotes source post: 17097400

^^^ BINGO! If you want your car to be both lower and flatter through turns you HAVE TO stiffen things up - there's no way around that... no magic bullet so to speak. The more expensive - $3k and up (Ohlins included) - coil-overs do a pretty amazing job at this. I can't speak to every brand, but I'm sure they're similar when talking similar price points, all marketing hype aside. I went from worn out stock struts and shocks (Bilstein B4) to H&R Sport Springs on Bilstein B8's. The B8's were actually better than the worn out B4's, but stikll fairly harsh/jarring over sharp bumps/expansion joints. About 6 months ago I went from the B8's to KW V3's (around the same price point as the Ohlins R&T) and I have to say the difference is pretty amazing. It takes some driving to get the adjustments just right, but when you do, the balance between compliance and handling is a whole other level. It probably took me about a month to really get it dialed in for general road conditions (a couple long, several hundred mile road trips as well as local driving) I haven't done any auto x or track days with it yet, so that'll be another thing altogether.
