This is not a probability of success.

My muffler guy made a mistake and did the mod in the top pic - so we stuck it on just to check the sound........didn't cut it!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The old girl has some competition after 4 decades. I purchased a 2000 C2 a few days ago and I have a few questions> 94k miles, silver/ugly red, well kept, new rotors and tires. Car seems fairly tight to me. PPI by independent mechanic who has owned a 3.6 for 10 years. 13k. P/P
I am inclined to push this car more towards a track day environment. The ppi showed it had been lowered about 2" and had heavier springs at the back. I am inclined to seek out a roll bar, decent drivers seat and a set of 6 points. SCCA approved stuff. Gently used would be great.
After years of hearing the '66 yelling and screaming. I find the exhaust note on this car to be rather ineffectual. That will be taken care of in short order.

Nice!
First pic is a copy of the way the Porsche Sport Exhaust bypass looks (without the Porsche $5k vacuum shut off valves)
Next two are of the current Fister D bypass type.

I think he charges ~$295 to modify your units if you bring/send them in.
I DIY'd mine for ~ $100. Bought the pipe, cut the holes & fit the pipe, then had a local welder weld them in. FD's look much better but mine work and don't leak.
Congrats! How about a few pictures of the 1966?
My biggest knock on a stock 996 is that they are so quiet, new mufflers will make it sound like a proper 911. I'm a huge fan of the Fister mod, I had the work done for $60 at my local hot rod custom exhaust shop. Having had a number of expensive exhaust systems, the Fister is still my favorite sound.
My muffler guy made a mistake and did the mod in the top pic - so we stuck it on just to check the sound........didn't cut it! We took them back off and sent him back to change it to the Fister D mod.
