, I bought a CPO used Mercedes S63 to be a way safer driver, night vision with pedestrians alert,( car will stop if person walks in front of it or a deer or basically anything else, 360 camera, lane assist, you name it it is built so you don’t hit anyone else basically, the craziest feature is it will emit a high frequency noise from 1640 watt stereo to have your ear muscle close in a collision so you don’t have hearing loss, must be the same scientist that did the Climate change study.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/26/world...ntl/index.html
"A new study has found that drivers of flashy vehicles are less likely to stop and allow pedestrians to cross the road -- with the likelihood they'll slow down decreasing by 3% for every extra $1,000 that their vehicle is worth."
"Disengagement and a lower ability to interpret thoughts and feelings of others along with feelings of entitlement and narcissism may lead to a lack of empathy for pedestrians"
"I had noticed that the ones most likely to run a red light, not give way to pedestrians and generally drive recklessly and too fast were often the ones driving fast German cars,"
What do you think guys? I'm a pretty courteous driver. People don't know that we are driving cheaper cars, even though they may appear to "flashy vehicles". Your tax dollars at work?
I may not drive slower, but I sure as hell am more careful with the car I love than with the appliance my wife drives. A pedestrian is going to leave quite a dent.
This type of crud is coming out all over the social science journals. "People that like nice things/earn income...Bad, Narcissistic, Racist, Misogynist..."
So this is me being a jerk: Justifying your feelings with "research" is not science. I gotta a Porsche--Na, Na, Na
Are the Mods gonna end up moving this thread?
IMO
The driver's of Prius cars are the most inconsiderate. Not using turn signals, driving under the speed limit in left lane, talking or texting, tailgating and the worst offense, they are the most common car I observe litter being thrown out of.
BTW,
If the USA becomes a Socialist Country, what kind of cars do we get to drive?
Who gets to drive cool cars like a 996?
To be fair - But he also found people with "conscientious" characters seek out pricey models, too.
"People with this type of personality are, as a rule, respectable, ambitious, reliable and well-organised," the statement said. "They take care of themselves and their health and often perform well at work."
Just wait till you need someone to make some serious repair!
I was a jerk before I bought my $4K
996, but I'm always a courteous driver (rare around here) and good Karma seems to follow me on the road.
Do you ever get out of 2nd gear on that island? Gorgeous place. Spent a week there over Thanksgiving 2018 to settle a Pats/Eagles Superbowl bet, but that's a story for another day.
2-3 rarely 4 unless I get out on the main road. I work hard and enjoy my free time at home more and more...Traffic has gotten really bad and if your not out by 630am forget about it!
Ever since that damn crack head movie was filmed here it's gotten bad.
I've found that after doing my muffler delete last summer, people seem to notice me coming along more and are less likely to step out or pull out in front of me. So not only does the car sound better, I'm safer
Don't discount the Teslarati (the new breed of Prius drivers)...
Many Tesla drivers are the worst combination of egoist (look at me in my $80,000 Honda Insight) and left-lane-camping, self-appointed speed police ("why would you need to drive any faster than this?"). Now that Teslas are commonplace (at least here in SoCal), the Teslarati are having to try a lot harder to get noticed...saw a chrome-wrapped Model S the other day. Very subtle, and nothing screams "I'm environmentally conscious" louder than wrapping your plastic car with yards and yards of vinyl.
My 996 was less expensive than my new Mazda. I guess that makes me a nice guy.
I drive my wife's old hand-me-down Mazda3 most of the time. I am aggressive, but I am a very attentive driver, one of the few.
Well, the article did call out BMW, Audi and Mercedes owners, but not us super nice Porsche owners.
"men who own flashy vehicles are more likely to be "argumentative, stubborn, disagreeable and unempathetic." WTF is this a$$hole talking about? You talking to me, you talking to me?
I was a jerk looong before I bought the 996. The first thing I do when I buy a car is to remove the front window tint so I don't have to lower the window to flip people off.
You know what they say,
Anyone going slower than you is an idiot and anyone going faster than you is a maniac.
I may be wrong, but being an idiot or a bad driver seems to be distributed across all sorts of boundaries. I agree with another post, my head is on a swivel when I'm in my 911 and I'm careful. It gets opened up on clear stretches when possible.
Though, when I lived in south Florida, I saw BMWs being driven improperly, more so than other brands, particularly on the interstate. My own brother had a BMW for a relatively short time but got rid of it as he got too much attention from blue light John Law and ticketed for speeding several times.
May be that there is a mind control device in Beemers that forces an autonomous response to press the go pedal harder.
Are these the same scientists who say:

I censored these, but you get the idea...
What the title should be is:
"Scientists who were incentivized to conclude that people who drive expensive cars are jerks, say people who drive expensive cars are jerks."
, I bought a CPO used Mercedes S63 to be a way safer driver, night vision with pedestrians alert,( car will stop if person walks in front of it or a deer or basically anything else, 360 camera, lane assist, you name it it is built so you don’t hit anyone else basically, the craziest feature is it will emit a high frequency noise from 1640 watt stereo to have your ear muscle close in a collision so you don’t have hearing loss, must be the same scientist that did the Climate change study. And haven’t had a ticket, not even a parking ticket in over 30 years and drive nice cars.

Ah, THAT'S what you meant. Thanks for the clarification.
As an aside you probably won't care about, it's not _a_ scientist. It's effectively ALL scientists except Professor von Trump and the flat-Earth brigade.
Luckily, I'm doing my best to save the Earth by only driving 20-year-old sports cars instead of the environmental abominations full of thermoset plastics, lithium, and rare-earth elements the planet-hating Tesla and Prius drivers are buying these days...
Gawd yes. I need to fire up my solar-powered patchouli diffuser and do some gender-neutral deep-breathing exercises until hot yoga starts.
I just read through this thread
I love this forum lol "I'm going to go run over a scientist on lunch" you all have a great sense of humor
We all may be jerks but at least we can laugh at ourselves
This reputation has been earned by the aspirational BMW owners. It's them in their first leased 3-series who drive like the a**holes. I have never seen an M5 driver driving that way. Same for mercs. always the entry level models, never the S class and hardly ever the higher end AMGs.
I retired before I was outed as a dinosaur. It was tough camouflaging the tiny arms and the tail.
I thought it was only me that had observed the BMW drivers as suspects of ubermensch mentality.
Whoever wrote this has never been to Tucson, the San Francisco of Arizona. It's full of dusty old fart hippies, snowbirds and SJWs driving whatever trendy eco car of the day, yet somehow they can't stop plowing over pedestrians, cyclists, and other motorists. The driving here is seriously out of control, I don't care what the study says it's not the Porsche owners here!. The weird trailing green left arrows encourage people to run red lights and tempt fate with oncoming traffic or the tweaked out homeless dude in the intersection. Nuts.
There was the 911 owner at work telling me my job was useless and I should spend my time on better things. I suppose he was an arsehole. Then there was the guy in a 911 that, after getting blue flags on almost every corner on just about every lap at an LRP DE, still wouldn't let me pass in my lowly 944 NA. I'd almost run though him in corners and then he'd pull me on the straights. I suppose he was an arsehole. Fast forward many years and now I am a 911 owner. Damn! Arseholes unite!
