Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I installed titanium lug bolts, but I left my steel locks. Was that a mistake? Is it going to affect the balance? Its only an ounce, but wheel weights arent big, yet really affect balance.

POST 2Original post

You won't know until you drive it, but I doubt it will make much difference. Wheel weights aren't much heavier, but their location at a much farther point off wheel centre multiplies their effect.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That was my first thought when I decided to keep the stock wheel locks... the added weight is close to the center. But, then I drove it and was paranoid, but maybe the road was just bumpier? Ill try changing out the locks and then Ill take another drive. Then Ill know for sure.

POST 4Original post

I would not use different material wheel bolts. My concern would be more about the different forces it would apply as they change in temperature due to the different thermal expansion. It would give the equivalent effect of torquing one bolt differently the the other four. I don't think anyone would do this. JMHO.

POST 5Original post

Ditch the locks. They are ugly, and unless you park on the street all the time and live in a crummy neighborhood I just don't see the need for wheel locks.

. Titanium is a extremely stable material, there is nothing to worry about.

I have no issue with titanium....my issue is to have different material bolts on the same wheel. That means the bolts will expand and contract at different rates with temperature...simple material science. Even concrete expands and contracts with temperature which is why highways and bridges have expansion joints.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
