Looking at the 4S, it appears to be pretty good on wet roads, and that's probably the worst I will ever encounter, so I'll probably go with those unless I hear a better suggestion.
Leading evidence: 'worst i will ever encounter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'worst i will ever encounter' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace continental dwa' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello -
I really need some help here, after searching the internet for many hours. I find the replacement wheel/tire process very daunting. Here's the story.
Bought my first 911 ever last summer, it's a 996C2 (2000).
It came with some aftermarket 19" wheels and the following tires:
Rear: Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 275/30 19 Date Code 2015
Front: Continental Extreme Contact DW 235/35 ZR19 Date Code 2009
The tires are pretty old and I don't trust them, so it's time for new. It looks like the Continental tires on it are still available, but I was also looking at Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for around $300 more total. My priorities are performance and comfort, mileage is not a factor because these will definitely age out first like the current tires with the miles I put on it.
OR would it be better to go (back?) to 18" wheels and tires, for a more OEM look, and more comfortable ride, assuming 18" wheels would be more comfortable.
So my questions are:
(1) Any opinion on replacing the Continental DWA with the Michelin Pilot Sport vs keep it the same, and
(2) Would it be worth the expense of getting new wheels and going to 18" instead.
Thanks in advance!
I have 18s and Michelin tires, and the car is fairly comfortable. Unless you are not too happy with the 19s, I would spring for Michelin tires as the upgrade. I think they make the best tire.
The DWS-style tire is meant for all seasons, so if you do intend on driving your car in all seasons, I would pick the Michelin all-season equivalent. I have the AS3+ on my car. Its just OK in the snow, but very good in the wet and dry, even on the track.
Thanks! That is helpful. Would be nice to have some all-season insurance grip, just in case.
However, continuing my experience that nothing about tires or wheels is easy, It looks like the AS3+ is not available in a 235/35 in 19".
Looking at the 4S, it appears to be pretty good on wet roads, and that's probably the worst I will ever encounter, so I'll probably go with those unless I hear a better suggestion.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I'm not a fan of the Continental Extreme Contacts. I had them on my last 996 Targa and did not like them. I also tried them on my old 08 VWR32. Took them back after less than 50 miles of driving. They sucked on that car. The DWS were the bomb on the R32. I probably wouldn't run the DWS on the Porsche. They will do OK. Nothing like the pilot sports though.
