Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Is that because it isn't yet fixed and I need to check the fuel filler valve next?

I've determined it is 1 of three things, the gas cap, the valve under the gas fill area or a valve on the other end near the throttle body.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've read the various threads with this issue. I've determined it is 1 of three things, the gas cap, the valve under the gas fill area or a valve on the other end near the throttle body. I checked the gas cap and it was worn - got a new one from Pelican and replaced it, but I cannot clear the code using my old, cheap OBDII scanner. Is that because it isn't yet fixed and I need to check the fuel filler valve next? Or I need a better scanner?

What is probably happening is you clear the code but the error is still present and the CEL comes right back on along with the same code. Thus you need to look beyond the gas cap for the source of the problem, which IIRC is a small leak of the fuel tank ventilation/vapor recovery system.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
