Oil and filter were changed late last year (super clean), so Im not too worried.

I think were going to list the car for around $35k locally (SW Suburbs of Chicago), and adjust from there.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My father is the proud owner of a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. 6 speed manual. Finished in silver with black interior. Clean title. The car has just over 27k original miles. Shes a true gem. IMS bearing has never been touched. Car looks and drives beautifully.
Hes considering putting the car up for sale, and has given me the opportunity to find a buyer. As Im sure we all know, the market is unbelievably hot. Im seeking help from the forum to understand a realistic ballpark $ amount we can expect to get for the car.
New to the forum. Thanks for all your help!

Low mileage always drives up the price. For a local, private sale at current market, $30K. On BaT, this could bring $35K at auction. Photo/video quality with overall ad presentation support a higher selling price. No IMS will hold selling price back a little.
Here is a 2000 996 Cabriolet TipTronic in great condition, well presented ad and low miles (36K), listing ends today. Yours should sell higher than this listing.

Something is worth whatever someone will pay for it. If you are not in a hurry, list it high. You can always lower the price. Especially if there is no hurry to sell.
Hed like to use the funds on another vehicle. Nothing for sure, but probably a classic of some sorts. Ive heard him talk about maybe getting a 50s Ford T-Bird or Chevy Bel Air. Hes the third owner of the 996, and has no attachment to the car. I dont think hes selling because he dislikes the vehicle. Rather feels like its just time for something new. The car is beautiful, and Im sure if space and funds were no issue, hed keep both! Wouldnt we all? Hes enjoyed his time behind the wheel over the last three years, but now seems like a good time to sell.
Sounds like a really nice Carrera 4 cab. Good advice given by others...and based on auction prices....996's (in general) are on their way up. Original, low-mileage, well maintained with desirable options are commanding increasing $. If he's really interested in selling, now is as good as time as any. As someone who has bought and sold cars on BaT....for good, bad or otherwise, it has a following and nice cars, that are presented well bring big $. Based on quick search of 2002 Carrera 4 Cab sales since Jan 21'.....$26.5 (86K miles w/replacement IMS)....$30.2 (60K miles w/orig IMS)...$32.5 (51K miles w/replacement engine). Your dad's very well could do better....or similar...depends if you get the right people bidding. Good luck!
I think part of it depends on how he would like to sell it. BaT gives you the potential to bring in some big money but also could leave you disappointed if the right people aren't in on the bidding. I would expect somewhere between $30k-$40k given what I've seen cars go for recently. On one hand, we have seen high mileage coupes go for $25k+ but cabs always seem to trend a bit lower compared to a coupe. If he's going the traditional route maybe list it for $35k or so and go from there. Fair warning though be prepared to deal with "is the IMS done?" and then never hear from them again. Another reason BaT might not be a bad option.
Thanks for the reply. Wed be over the moon if it sold for $35k-$40k! Unfortunately, I dont see that being the case without upgrading the IMS. Who knows, maybe Im wrong?
Given the IMS is not done, I could see it being a potential drawback for some buyers. Hopefully at 27k miles some lucky guy or gal would be willing to expect that task.
Look at that low-mile cab that was posted here earlier in this thread. It is a regular Carrera and a tip, I think being a 4 and 6 speed helps a little bit. I think with a car like this I would go with BaT and hope for the best. You never know, you could hit pay dirt with something like this
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...1-carrera-127/
or worst case you get low 30s. I have the twin to that cab, that one is in a bit better shape but I would be thrilled with half of that considering I bought it for 18k.
18k great buy!
Thanks for your input. Im doing more research on BaT. Not sure if auction is the road well take, but with proper photos, its an option.
This forum has helped show me it could realistically bring around $30k-$35k to the right buyer. Definitely better news than expected. KBB on the car is roughly $27k-$30k private, and $30k-33k retail. I started the forum to answer the question how accurate are those KBB numbers? Seems like everyone thinks those numbers are a bit weak given the current market.
Everyones been very helpful. Just wanted to stop and say thanks for taking the time out of your day.

Honestly you have to remember there's going to be a range on pricing for KBB depending on condition of the car, mileage, 6MT/Tip, color, etc. There's going to be cars that sell for high teens (high mileage tip), and others in the upper 40's or 50's (well taken care of 4S for example). I agree with others that if your fathers is well taken care of and has maintenance history mid 30's wouldn't be unreasonable. BAT inflates numbers IMO, but even private sale you could start it at $35 and see what happens, not like it hurts to list it and get little or no responses, then adjust if needed.
If you’re a PCA member you can always put it on ‘The Mart’. Start at a healthy number and see what you get. I’ve seen some 996 ‘wanted’ ads over the past few months.
Thanks for the tip. We arent currently members of PCA. I think were going to list the car for around $35k locally (SW Suburbs of Chicago), and adjust from there. Im having the car detailed, then professionally photographed. If no one bites locally, well probably end up listing on BaT in the coming weeks.
KBB literally says my 964 Coupe is worth $24,251 private party value. Don't even bother with them or NADA. Hagerty can hardly keep up with appreciation. It's one of the reasons I'm timid about using my vintage pcars because I know insurance would probably offer half their market values.
If you listed it locally on CL for $35k firm and you have service records to show people, I think you will get it (or very close) in this environment. Let the next owner deal with the IMSB. Low mileage 6 speeds are in high demand, you have what others want!
UPDATE-
After a week of smiles driving the car, Ive made a deal with my father to purchase the 996!!! I wont disclose exact numbers, but you could say Im getting the I love you son price.
The car goes to a local indy tech this upcoming week for a pre purchase inspection. Oil and filter were changed late last year (super clean), so Im not too worried. I plan to leave the car with the tech to address a few minor issues. (1) Airbag light is on not sure if its a sensor or something with the seatbelt/ buckle. (2) The gas gauge started acting up Wont register that Ive added gas. Ive read this is a common issue. To note, the car was basically on E, and I didnt fill the tank. Suggestions?
Ill keep the thread posted!
Enjoy the weekend,
J
