Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello Everyone, I'm going to buy a C4s in the next few days and has found 3. Yellow at Sandredhill Ford, Red at Merc of Federricksburg or blue at Auto by Design. They all around same Options and same Price. Much Appreciated if anyone knows any info on these cars or can steer me towards or away from 1. Thank you All. Blue WP0AA29942S623496 Red WP0AA29923S621408 Yellow WP0AA29923S620565

POST 2Original post

Can you post the VINs so we can see the build sheets. Yellow 996 have been commanding a premium price but red and blue are also very nice. Color is more a personal preference. Worry more about the PPI results and the service records available on each.

POST 4Original post

Yellow, better color and it has factory sports exhaust. Get a thorough PPI before you fall in love

POST 5Original post

You will be looking at it. Red all day. Love to see the blue one though.

POST 6Original post

https://www.sandsfordofredhill.com/i...11-Red-Hill-PA this looks to be in great shape.

POST 7Original post

Know nothing about the other two cars but that yellow one looks nice.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Everyone that gave an opinion...I'm Leaning towards the Yellow 1 too. I was sent pics of the underside, but I don't know how to post those here for everyone to view.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If this looks good to you All, I'm going to Pay for the PPI and start with the purchase. 😊

POST 10Original post

Make sure whoever does the PPI is familiar with 996 and pay extra for an invasive bore scoping via the sump. If youre gonna layout nearly $50k cosmetics doesnt matter, the health of the engine does!

POST 11Original post

Without more detail it's hard to say. I'm biased for red as have always been, but yellow is a close second. The yellow C4S looks very nice, but I wouldn't buy a 996.2 without having the cylinders scoped like Optionman1 noted. Are there service records for prior maintenance?

POST 12Original post

Love red on the 996 but I agree with the crowd have the M96 looked at before you put your money on the barrel head.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm having second thots on the yellow 1 now. They sent me a vid of the engine running and I can cleay hear a tick tick tick constant. Might be sign of beginning Bore issue. : - (

POST 16Original post

Is it stock exhaust? Seems like when I went with my full exhaust headers, 200 cell CATs and mufflers I heard a lot more chatter in the back then with OEM. Who knows maybe my poor ole 996 has the dreaded bore score. I'm about to buy the LN deep sump oil pan and Ill have them look then. I've had my 996 for a decade now.

POST 17Original post

I hear the ticking but could be the injectors firing as well or an exhaust leak. Sounds like the issue is coming from the passenger side to me. Maybe they would pay for a inspection if you were serious. Its worth asking.

POST 18Original post

Also its worth noting that I've heard that the majority of bore scoring come from cars in colder climates. I don't know how much truth lies in that but it makes sense to me. You may want to find out where the cars been driven the majority of its life.

POST 19Original post

If you search the VIN of the yellow one, a post on firstflatsix mentions an accident on the carfax https://firstflatsix.com/paid-featur...arrera-4s-6sp/

POST 20Original post

That accident takes away from the value. Remember you need to think that one day you may want to sell. I only saw the yellow one, and I saw the price. Once you pay taxes its a $50k car. Do not buy any of them unless you do a PPI scoping the bores. You are in Pensilvania and that being a colder climate, I will be extremely concerned about the bores. I personally would buy the one with the best documented service history. Also consider recent service, if the clutch ,aos, rms and IMs were already done, brakes, plugs, coils. Thats a bunch of money you are not going to have to spend. A final thought, show all three dealerships that you have the means to buy the car, put them in competition with each other and if you get one to do a ppi and pay for it get the others to play the same game. My favorite color is blue so Im partial to that one. My daily is that F150 supercrew Velocity Blue. I wanted a different color. this car had a bunch of maintenance done at Porsche dealerships and about $5k in mods. Clean car fax no accidents.
