Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So me and my good lady are driving down from London to Italy for a couple of weeks soon...it's probably a 2,000 mile trip, maybe a little more.
Leading evidence: '2,000 mile trip, maybe a little more' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '2,000 mile trip, maybe a little more' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So me and my good lady are driving down from London to Italy for a couple of weeks soon...it's probably a 2,000 mile trip, maybe a little more. We're in my 2003 Cab2 so space is somewhat at a premium with 2 weeks worth of luggage...
The car is new to me (2 months, 1,000 miles) so a little unknown but so far completely faultless. I'm trying to decide what tools would make a sensible but compact tool kit. I'm generally ok mechanically but realistically I'm not going to do much on the side of the road or in a hotel car park...
Thoughts so far:
Jump leads
Small set of screwdrivers
Small set of spanners
Spare oil
I've got breakdown cover of course, but that's not always going to be the easiest thing in a foreign language...
Any thoughts what else would be worth including? Or maybe less?
Yes on the jumper cables, nah on the rest on your list. Spare battery for your cell phone. Flat tire plug kit/air pump. Call your CC company that you're travelling so card will not get flagged as being stolen.
Since your car is relatively new, make sure you aren't missing jack/lug wench and that you have a working spare tire and inflated to proper psi if applicable.
Also make sure you have a key if you have wheel locks.
I was gonna recommend fishing out your emergency frunk/trunk release cables just in case of any battery issues, but since you have a cab, this isn't totally necessary.
I carry a tire plug tool/kit, and during the last long trip I also packed an OBD code reader as I had been having a code problem that would render the car undriveable without the code being cleared.
Also packed a metric wrench set and flashlights.
Pack a spare ignition switch. $10 part, and you're boned if it craps out. Buy a pack of fuses.
I carry an electric inflator, radial plug kit (deleted the spare tire), a multi-tool, zip ties, a variety pack of blade fuses, and about 6 feet of duct tape, which all fits in the inflator pouch. If I can't fix it with that stuff, it's time to call for roadside assistance.
Since I always travel with a computer, I keep my Durametric in my computer bag.
