Suggestion

If you fail to replace a regulator that is checking out, the auto-drop functionality will eventually quit working, which will make it more difficult to open and close the door.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all, what gives? There is almost a half inch of a gap between the drivers side front window and the rear glass and almost no gap on the passenger side... Normal...? Thx

POST 2Original post

No, the gap should be equal, but when the window regulator craps out, the glass is not held in the correct location.

POST 3Original post

If you can grasp the top of the driver-side glass and move/rock the glass fore and aft any significant amount (door open, window down 1/4 way), your window regulator is crapping out.

POST 4Original post

THAT, my man, is "what gives." Please open your wallet and extract $150-300. If you suck at DIY, you'll be paying for an hour or two of labor as well. The $80 eBay regulators are rumored to fail much more quickly than the "legit" version. No experience with the eBay version, so I cannot confirm this. If you fail to replace a regulator that is checking out, the auto-drop functionality will eventually quit working, which will make it more difficult to open and close the door. If the alignment gets too far off, the tip of the front glass can wind up touching/overlapping the rear glass. Guess what happens if you slam the door with the window in this configuration? *hint* It involves your wallet again.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, kinda what I thought... the previous owner had replaced the regulators a couple times already... Any bullet-proof fixes or is this just considered "maintenance" like the IMS bearing update? ;-)

POST 6Original post

The only bullet-proof fix I know of is avoiding the eBay regulator. If PO had replaced them several times, I'm guessing he was being a cheapass. Look at all the money he saved!
