Any idea why a random ABS warning?

Today as I was driving, I suddenly got an "ABS" message on the dash, and the ABS light came on. After I stopped the car, the ABS light went out. Started the car later, and got an ABS message on the dash console, but the ABS light did not light up. Then, drove the car several more times today, and no lights or messages of any sort. Any ideas why this seemed to randomly pop up and then disappear?

Most people are going to tell you to get the car scanned for codes (PIWIS or Durametric etc.) I would start there first, then report back with the code/problem. But I'm going to throw it out there - you may likely need to replace the brake light switch.

Did you happen to just do any work on or around the air intake box? Last weekend I forgot to reconnect the MAF sensor plug on the airbox, and for whatever reason the code that was thrown was the ABS/PSM fault. Just putting that out there in the unlikely event this may help you out.

When I pick ked up my c4s the alignment was way out. It would cause the abs light and pay light to pop codes when backing out of my driveway. Got a full alignment and has not happened since.

Are you or have you gotten a check engine light? CEF? Mass air flow sensor can cause contribute to the issue. I had one of my cats go caused abs and traction lights to kick off. But was in injunction with CEF warning

There is a catastrophic engine failure light?

Low battery voltage (either continuous or intermittent) will cause the ABS and/or PSM warning lights to be displayed.

I think if the CEL is blinking, your car is about to go boom.

Hmm, what part commonly causes intermittent electrical gremlins in our cars? That part commonly wears out, but thankfully is cheap & easy to fix. NAPA carries them in stock for $12 but you can get a better quality part from one of the parts houses like Warehouse33auto.com for about 30 bucks. The name is right on the tip of my tongue . . . Also concur with dukes that it could be a brake switch going bad. Both cheap & easy preventative fixes that just require you to spend a little "alone time" in your driver's side footwell.

Alrighty, thanks for the replies. I'll scan it for codes if I get a chance later today. Nope, no air box work. But yes, had a CEL a couple weeks ago that I cleared. I still get random CELs from the Fabspeed exhaust system. No pattern to it at all. Every few months, a CEL pops up regarding Bank 1 Efficiency or similar (there are several codes that may appear). I clear it and am good to go until it pops up again a few months later. Never saw this ABS code before. Maybe I'll replace that relay if it pops up again. Will keep an eye on things.

I think the car is scared of the thunder.

^^ Ha. Some funny weather for July! Hey, do me a favor... put on the Direzzas and zoom around the freeways for a few hours, maybe also a quick run up Palomar Mtn., then report back on wet performance handling.

Hey, don't be talking about rain and bad weather. I'll be out there in 4 days and I damn well better see 80 degrees and sunny the entire trip. Just sayin'. BTW: Would be great to meet up with area Rennlisters for a beer in San Diego (far north county's fine)on the evening of July 28, 29, 30 or 31. I'll be the one driving the econo rental car with PTSD from 4 straight days of LA area theme parks.

I'm in far north county SD, let me know travel plans. Over 100 breweries in San Diego. Scheduling some typical 78 degree weather for ya. Hasn't rained here in about 7 years, before today.
