Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
There will of course be wear items to address: Tires, and plugs and filters and oil and other vital fluids as their change by date/mileage comes around.
Leading evidence: 'Use '99 as a dd' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace by date/mileage comes around' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
This works by having two sets of discs with one set connected to the rear diff and the other connected to the front diff.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have the chance to pick up a c4s for fair price with lower miles etc... I have had P cars before, and aware of IMS/RMS etc and this car had a newer fix. I just want a daily driver to add miles to as a commuter car. Some people would want a civic or a prius as a commuter car but given what a decent c4s are selling for (and I don't car about gas mileage) and the fact its AWD etc saw this is not a bad option. Are these cars you can stack miles on and drive or known to have many issues/gremlins relatively speaking.
Lot of high mileage cars here?
Thanks all....
While I don't daily my car because I work and live in the city, I would have no problems doing so. When I have to see clients or go to events, I take it.
You can of course add miles to the car. Whether any issues or gremlins will pop up remains to be seen.
It could go either way.
For instance, I have added 291K miles to my Boxster and relatively few issues have come up.
Also, I have added 132K miles to my Turbo and quite a few issues have come up.
There will of course be wear items to address: Tires, and plugs and filters and oil and other vital fluids as their change by date/mileage comes around.
As the miles accumulate other things can need attention. Water pump, fuel pump, CV boots, brakes.
The list above is not complete. I have left off the Boxster brake light/clutch switches, the door lock and window hardware that wore out, the failed radiator motor, the 3 AOS's, and VarioCam solenoid and actuator.
I note you have a number of AWD/4WD vehicles. Be advised the AWD system of the C4 is not like any of the AWD systems you are used to.
Torque is transmitted to the front diff via a viscous fluid coupling which is in the front diff. This works by having two sets of discs with one set connected to the rear diff and the other connected to the front diff. The two sets of discs rotate at different speeds. The difference is speeds arises because of the different tire sizes between the rear and front tires.
As the car moves down the road these discs rotating at different speeds cause the fluid to heat up and as it heats up its gets viscous and the fluid then transfers torque from the discs driven by the rear diff to the discs connected to the front diff.
Nominally the torque transmitted to the front diff ranges from a low of 5% to a high of 40%. The 40% number occurs at around 150mph.
This works very well as long as both sets of wheels are turning at their normal speeds with just a few percent (?) difference in speed. But get in a marginal traction condition where the rear tires do not have grip and spin the front tires will not pull the car out of the situation and in fact continued spinning of the rear tires can damage the viscous coupling.
Buy the C4 because it is a good car and in good shape and even because it has AWD but do not expect it to be the all terrain vehicle, the extreme snow vehicle similar to the other vehicles with which you are familiar.
Granted the Porsche will the proper snow tires will manage very well in snow but the primary motive force will come from the grip the rear tires have, which is considerable given the amount of weight over the rear tires.
My 04 C2 cab is my only car for the last 2 years and 22kMiles. As a DD, it is used to bring my toddler to daycare (yes, with a child seat in the back), my 12 year old to school and activities, and me for and back to work. Tires, oil chanhges, fluid refreshes and general maintenance as with any other car, albeit slightly more expensive.
+1
Yea, my 2004 996 C2 is my daily driver. I don't put snow tires on it, just leave it home in the garage on the rare snow day. Like any car, you have to keep up with the maintenance. Occasionally some issue will pop up that keeps it in the shop overnight. But generally quite reliable, not to mention fast and exhilarating (better than a coffee 1st thing in the morning).
