Can Indy repair shops stamp in this book or is this exclusive to Porsche dealer service centers?

Suggestion
The Porsche service book has spaces for stamps by the dealer, and they will use an official stamp (kind of like a notary stamp) that shows the name and location of the dealer.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I asked used car dealer about the service records for a 996 he had for sale. I know these guys usually get their car from auctions with no history at all. I will most likely buy my 996 from a private seller who has all of the records plus I just prefer meeting the previous owner to get a feel for how the car was driven and maintained.
The used car salesman said that his 996 had all of the service intervals stamped in the cars service book. Can Indy repair shops stamp in this book or is this exclusive to Porsche dealer service centers?
Also, the sales guy said that I could verify all of the service history at any dealer. Is this true? He said his 2001 996 will need the 60K service soon and that would cost around $2K but he would throw that in as part of the deal. Is this the typical price for the 60K service or is everything this guy is saying BS?
Any p-car dealer can tell you at which other p-car dealerships the car was serviced. Though they can't necessarily tell what the service was in any detail. However a quick call to the servicing dealer can get you the information so long as you have the vin. So it's sort of a 2 step process but can be well worth the trouble. This obviously doesn't provide any help if indy shops are used or if the owner is the DIY kind.
I used this technique several times when I was researching cars prior to finalizing the deal on my C4S.
I had the same experience. If you can find the original servicing dealer, then you may be able to convince them to give you the service information for the vehicle. I had this done for the 996, and they blacked out the previous owner's personal information (even thought I knew him and already had this information). The national dealer network should allow them to see if any recalls/TSBs were performed on the vehicle, but that's it.
The Porsche service book has spaces for stamps by the dealer, and they will use an official stamp (kind of like a notary stamp) that shows the name and location of the dealer. An independent mechanic could sign the book, but wouldn't have the Porsche stamp.
60K service should not be $2K, this is a sales ploy to make it look like they are giving you more "value." But a complete service is worth quite a bit. It should include a full inspection to identify any work that is needed, basically a PPI. Then have them do all the work as part of the deal, Better yet would be to have another party do the inspection so the seller is not hiding anything, Best of all would be to get the dealer to CPO the car,
service and owner should be the last of your concern, get the car PPI'd and Pressure Tested by a Porsche Dealer, The Report will tell you weather the car is a Good Deal or Not...
