I did the yellow FF trans inserts along with PU filled motor mounts..dramatic improvement but I also had worn mounts that I took out.

I had an orange Function First trans mount installed today along with fresh gear oil.

I had the yellow with original trans mount then installed a new trans mount they were more or less equivalent.

I installed the yellow and took it out within a week.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Also, the factory has a rubber piece (spacer) that goes between the stock mount and bracket, does this get reused and if so, does it go between the yellow insert and stock mount or on the outside, or is it not used at all?
Any grease used on the insert, like prothane poly grease?
I'm considering this as well when I do my transmission oil service soon so curious about the feedback. I know there isn't as much movement there as there is in suspension but the poly grease is very helpful during the install and helps prevent any potential noises. My guess is that there may be a bit more vibration with the stiffer insert at the benefit of more direct shifts. How much vibration is the real question.
Hey Bill,
I've done the yellow transmission bushing insert (Powerflex). I also did the black one previously (Function First) - if you like feeling like you're driving s race car, go with the black (the NVH is quite noticeable - it sounds like the transmission and engine are in the cabin with you... not really but you get my drift). I didn't mind it too much but my GF had a different opinion... Yes, you use grease when installing the insert, but if your existing bushing hasn't collapsed, you won't really need it. ** I've got a black insert (FF) cheap if you're interested in that "race-car experience"
I also tried the FF black and was shocked at the increased NVH. Drove it for 10 mins and took it back out. dporto, do you find the yellow is much different?
Oh yeah, the yellow is MUCH better than the black one was (when I first installed the black one, I thought I screwed something up - it was just the NVH). I lived with it for nearly a year before swapping the yellow one with it... so much quieter...
Put yellow in and it is worth the chump change and easy enough to insert...good inter web instructions. Great complement to good engine mounts. More NVH, but worth it to me, cuz, well, its a dang sports car!
I have the yellow Powerflex. Theres a noticeable increase in NVH with it, but the shifting is definitely better. I had tried it, removed it, then reinstalled it again. Im planning an engine-out project soon, for an impending clutch job. Ill probably remove the insert and install a new transmission mount bushing at that time.
I agree with the black comments, like sitting in the engine room in the Queen Mary. I had the yellow with original trans mount then installed a new trans mount they were more or less equivalent. As for NVH I didn't find much of a difference at all, maybe it has something to do with the RSS motor mounts.
I've had a yellow set sitting in my garage for a year now. I've had no shifting issues and my stock mount has not collapsed (yet) but thought I'd stick it in until I got around to doing a factory replacement when the R40 arrive next year (March)
What about the rubber ears/spacer (?) pieces the factory uses? Yah or nay, in between the PF and mount or outside of the PF bushing?
Trying to get this trans back in has been a real bitch. I spent 10 hour on trying to get it back in and it's still fighting me.
I should have dropped the motor as one unit at the time, so much easier now that I've tried it both ways.
I did the yellow FF trans inserts along with PU filled motor mounts..dramatic improvement but I also had worn mounts that I took out.
No extra vibrations just a good solid road feel. Little grease on the inserts and they slipped right in NP. Also pressed in recently a new transmission mount.....always replacing 17 year old rubber.
Sorry to hear you're having issues Bill. As I remember, angle is the critical bit. It also took two of us under the car to get it into place, but it did slide in fairly uneventfully.
I had an orange Function First trans mount installed today along with fresh gear oil. I was only able to put about 40 miles on the car but I felt a noticeable difference in shift quality. It just runs through the gears effortlessly. The clutch feels like it engages better, like there’s no drive train loss or slop. Rev matching improved as well as shifting gears mid corner. I did not experience any added vibration. In fact it helped smooth out the vibration I was getting at 80mph on the highway which I think was from the RSS engine mounts. It previously felt like a wheel was slightly off balance and now that’s all but gone. Noise did increase but not considerably. You just hear more engine and drive train in the cabin but it not bothersome. Now it’s got an unbelievably connected feeling that brought the whole car together. I know it’s not the yellow power flex bushing but I wanted to share my feedback on this. I would definitely consider a trans mount insert be it PF or FF. Good luck!
