(Notice the crud on the aluminum.) If it were me, I'd just use some mild detergent/cleaner and a plastic brush and clean it off.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I recently purchased my fiirst 911, it's a 2002 c4s and it's awesome! I've just jacked it up to have a look at the engine from below and I noticed a short 90 degree coolant pipe that looks 18 years old and I would like your help to identify it to have a crack at replacing it. Can you help please?

POST 2Original post

Damn! That thing looks like it's from 1910! Check out these two sites to help ID parts: http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p..._911_parts.php https://www.porsche.com/all/media/pd...SA_KATALOG.pdf I'm flushing my coolant and replacing the water pump and thermostat in a few weeks. Hopefully my hoses are fine.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks James ..looks like that's the one.

POST 5Original post

Yep, it's 29. Make sure you get the correct one, one size does not fit all on our 996's.

Jason, is the pipe leaking? While the rubber coolant pipe looks unsightly, it's not cracked. It's common for the pipe to look dirty with road crud... It builds up on the at pipe because of it's location in proximity of the rear wheels. Over time, water and road debris/chemicals splash on that pipe as well as the engine. (Notice the crud on the aluminum.) If it were me, I'd just use some mild detergent/cleaner and a plastic brush and clean it off. You'll find under all that dried up crud on the surface, there is a very nice rubber hose. Avoid using any harsh solvents. If you plan to change that pipe out, you should go ahead and flush the coolant system with an airlift tool. If not, you'll have air bubbles in the system.
