I ended up prying it up carefully - very carefully - and I replaced the front latch lock mechanism.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a new to me 1999 Carrera with the manual engine compartment release i went to pull the lever to open the engine lid and check my coolant level and the lever stayed up - as if theres no tension on the lever also the trunk lid did not pop open when I pulled the lever. Has anyone had this problem and have any recommended solutions?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just now found a thread covering the emergency engine lid release for those of us with cable levers i will try everything in that thread first and post back if Im still stuck or need more guidance

POST 3Original post

I had that problem on the frunk. I ended up prying it up carefully - very carefully - and I replaced the front latch lock mechanism.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You pried it up just from the actual hood itself??

POST 5Original post

I wedged a couple pieces of soft wood and a screw drivers was in the middle. The lock was open, but the hood was stuck in the latch. I wouldnt advise doing what I did unless you knew the lock/latch is open. It could be that your cable has snapped. In that case, you need to find the emergency release, or find the broken cable end and pull it.

POST 6Original post

I had a similar problem. The latch on the car body was out of alignment with the U-shaped part on the engine lid. The U-shaped part would bind up a little on the latch. I got it open by pulling and holding the emergency release while alternately lifting up and pushing down on the lid and pushing the lid side-to-side. In retrospect it would have been easier with a helper to hold the emergency release. I fixed the entire problem by loosening up the latch and moving it slightly so that it did not bind up on the U-shaped part. Since then I have had no trouble at all.
