Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok so my rear trunk will not open and I find zero info for my issue... i'v been searching for two days now and yes I read the sticky about the trunk.. it doesn't address this. my battery is NOT dead and my handle by the drivers seat will not open the rear trunk. front trunk has no issues opening. I found the emergency cable and fished it out, pulled .. pulled again.. pulled harder... it is not popping that rear trunk. I can find no one with this problem. am I just an idiot and totally missing something obvious?? wait I'll say it ... I did try just lifting up on the trunk to see if it was already open lolol it will not lift up. my next thought is to drop the exhaust and try to go up from the bottom if its even accessible from down there. please help as I have no tail lights and really want to get in there and check things out. 1999 Carrera coupe

POST 2Original post

Can you hear it even attempting to release the latch or does it make no noise at all? Mine would make the noise but it wouldn't fully release like it was hung up. Didn't have anyone available to help pull so drove the rear tires over a speed bump at a moderate speed and pulled the cable at the same time and it popped loose.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

no not even a noise. it feels like the cable is solidly mounted to something with ZERO play in it after I put tension on it.

POST 4Original post

Have someone pull on the emergency release cable, push down hard on the engine lid then try to lift it up.

POST 5Original post

pull the cable or in car lever while someone else lifts the trunk

POST 6Original post

The rear cable should be on the left (driver) side, not right. I think the way the cable is routed you are pulling in the wrong direction.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is on the left side. Although looking at that pic input on here does look like the right side... Oops. Anyway, i had my wife come and give me a hand. She pushed, i pulled... snapped the loop on the end of that cord. I had her pull the one by the seat and i can hear a faint clicking but nothing letting loose as i push and pull while she pulled the lever. So frustrated right now ☹️ Im gonna have to take it to a dealer if i cant figure this out soon. I have no tail lights and cant drive it

POST 10Original post

Huh...interesting. The lock and cable mechanism is really straight forward...see here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=803-05 That being said, have you tried locking/unlocking the car a couple of times? Could be it is locked. At least try to listen to the latch while someone locks and unlocks the car. Or, unlock the car and undo the negative lead on the battery. Maybe that will work...I'm guessing. I really can't think of a way to access the latch except to remove your exhaust system and see if you can get a hand up there. Shy of that, maybe a good body shop can give you a suggestion. I'm sure they deal with stuck latches once in a while. I would not allow them to use a pry bar on it. Bad things could happen. Found this article and it has some ideas http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ase-cable.html Another idea, raise the spoiler and see if you can see what is going on https://www.renntech.org/forums/topi...014-carrera-s/

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ya im scratching head as well... this just makes no sense. I would the the release cable under the light would be fail safe... i will try locking and unlocking it a bunch tonight. Thanks for chiming in.

POST 12Original post

It's possible that the latch is covered in sticky gunk

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It would have to be superman spit gunk or something cuz iv broken into plenty of trunks and this thing is solidly stuck. Im hoping im just doing something wrong... im going to tear into it again tonight.

POST 14Original post

The one guy from the Renntech article got to his latch raising the spoiler. You might have to undo the bellows from the spoiler and get a coat hanger in there to pull on the latch. Sure beats the cutting torch...ahem.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hope it doesn't go that far

POST 16Original post

Sheesh - good luck opening it! (hide the can opener)

POST 17Original post

Had the same problem. Noodled the small hose of some WD40 and sprayed the locking mechanism. After gently giving it CPR Porsche style, the hood released itself. Happened to be gummed up from sitting up so long.

Where did you put the nozzle in at? Please share

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wd-40, pushed , pulled so bummed right now. Nothing is working. Did the locks back and forth etc... i think im gonna drop the exhaust. I just hate.... hate the idea of paying a dealership for something so dumb.

POST 22Original post

did you ever solve this problem? I'm currently going through it...

I ended up driving to the dealership and they pulled on the release cable and it opened right up for them I guess you just have to know how to do it

POST 24Original post

Put some painters tape on and underneath the left tail light and bumper. Place some type of small plastic wedge between the tail light and the bumper to create a gap. Use a hook (coat hangar?) and fish the emergency release cable out from under the light. Pull it and the engine lid should unlatch and open.

This worked, thank you! The main cable came undone from it's little groove/mount that it sits in, so the cable had no tension to pull. Funny thing is, now my engine lid won't latch. It looks like the eccentric of the latch is worn to where it doesn't grab easily unless you physically facilitate the engagement with your hands. Which is impossible unless the lid is open. Ordered a used latch that is hopefully less worn than mine
